He doesn't deserve the kudos though. He has set up this team to dominate possession. If he had done Shaw, Henderson and Rashford would have been no way near that side. The formation may have changed along with some players but essentially the tactics were no different to Big Sam or Roy Hodgsons Palace Team. If your basing it on results, perhaps for getting to the semis of the world cup. But even this was overshadowed by the luck of the draw and set piece wins. He doesn't deserve any kudos at all, he is not innovative, he's not tactically bold. The world cup run masked his vulnerabilities. Im not comfortable with this term at times as it does fall into being a tired cliche. But this guy is a fraud, what he does do well is look suitably concerned on the touchline, wear nice suits and sound articulate. Ticks all the boxes for the media. The way he sets up and what he is asking this team to do, is no different to Jose at Utd. Thankfully are few more of you are starting to see it and it was why the praise he was receiving during the world cup was unbearable to hear as he did not deserve it, the luck of the draw did.

Why should the young current crop take the stick for the media’s behaviour towards a city player ? It’s nothing to do with these lot. The media will always do what they can to chase ratings, f*ck em. They win if you resort to their level.

He now needs to be really brave and promote some of our top young players at the expense of Dier, Henderson, Ali and co.

All my life, England have stuck with players from the usual teams, & shoehorned them into the side irrespective of whether it works or not. If Foden & Sancho were Utd or Liverpool players, they would be playing now. Maybe not starting but playing.

And the posts from the resident gaw blimey guvner on here, shows why they get away with it. Thete are millions like him who accept it. And if Southgate dropped them & started building a team but the results weren't instant, they would all support the Sun newspaper campaign to get rid of him & bring back Fat Sam.

So Southgate has to try & trawl out short term results with experienced troglodytes trying to play football they struggle with, rather than experiment with talent who do it naturally. Otherwise he will be fired.

I agree. That's why he has to be brave and do it his way. He doesn't need the money or job but you are right he will be hounded out after a few bad results.

I'm far from convinced by Pickford in goal. Every time we concede it's always someone else's fault, he doesn't pass out from the back, contrary to popular opinion, and did you see that last goal, he dived after the ball had hit the net to make it look like he was getting near it, reminded me of a kid in a school team.

With the media hysteria to replace Hart his faults were glossed over especially his distribution.

Your view mate. In my opinion spain took there foot off the gas and made us look good.
My gripe is there were 4 players on the pitch who were non existent players being picked by club and not skill. England will never succeed while the team is being picked by the FA and yes men

For the life of me I can’t understand how Lingard and Alli both lasted 90 minutes, never mind the 120mins against Croatia. Also, why does Southgate keep taking Henderson off and bringing on Dier?

Rashford is bang average and will be at Everton or the like in 12-18 months. As for Kane, he needs a break or I can see him falling off a cliff like Torres, Owen, Van Persie etc in a few years
