England vs Austria | Wednesday 2nd June 2021

Classic England performance that. Some real talent and some real shite. Gareth has once again looked to Pep for influence and has Pickford firing long balls Ederson style now, which didn't work quite as well of course.

Trent was shite. Trippier was very good and at LB so not concerned by the injury.

Kane was class and Rice was very good. I though Bellingham was poor. Grealish still a way off his best following the injury.

I always think you need a plan B for a tournament. Someone who given one chance will bury it. It used to be Vardy, and Southgate leaving him on the bench so long against Croatia was criminal, now it is Ings. He just gets goals. No way DCL should be on the plane. He is quick and good at jumping and that it is.

Watkins would have been better to take than him. Similarly, if you want to break a team down late on and get a goal you might have to go more direct or creative from deep and Ward Prowse should have got the nod over a RB or Hendo is he is just to be on his arse.

See Trent Alexander-Arnold is up there with Virgil now. What time is the two minute silence today?
I've just got back from an all night candlelight vigil in Winsford. Has the doctor spoken to his next of kin yet?
This is the worst thing to hit football since Virgil was injured even the BBC non-sport presenters mentioning it but thankfully Naga Fucking Munchetty is too shocked for words. For once.
Boris to address the nation tonight.

Why is Grealish picked out as instrumental in that goal? It's a basic pass, a straight line run and then got tackled. Kanes pass and Lingards lay off were the instrumental parts of that goal.
I watched first half and, apart from that simple pass Grealish did fuck all apart from wander all over the pitch and throw in some embarassing dives.

This morning i read chief footy writer McNultys piece entitled, 'Grealish and Arnold sum up England's mixed performance', in which he claims;

For Grealish, it was the sort of statement performance he will have wanted to produce as he re-established his England credentials superbly and continues his return to full fitness after a shin injury.

This may have been an experimental side with so many players rested after their efforts for Chelsea, Manchester City and Manchester United in the Champions League and Europa League finals but there was plenty riding on this for Grealish.

And the 25-year-old did not disappoint, emphasising once again the influence he is able to exert, continuing to gain the confidence of Southgate after a period when England's manager did not seem fully convinced by what Grealish can offer.

It was a sentiment echoed by the crowd here at Middlesbrough, who revelled in the X-factor the Aston Villa playmaker brings to England with his ability to make things happen, his willingness to run at defences, create space for others and draw fouls in dangerous positions with his natural sleight of foot.

Now Grealish must've had one hell of a second half because nothing in the above quote, apart from 'drawing fouls', happened in the first.

You do have to wonder if Journalists are "asked" by the FA to write positive stories about certain players before the game even if they do fuck all during it
