England's problem

Nothing is organised - from the top governors down to the grass roots players.
agreed. rafa benetiz hit the nail on the head when he said england have no philosophy, we have no way of playing. we are a group of individuals and nowhere near a team - we'll be lucky to beat costa rica on tuesday

For me, England have no plan or direction in which to move forward. Ever since this so called 'golden generation' (which won sod all) our game plan has been to accommodate all of our star players and hope for a moment of magic. No disrespect but if we have failed to be successful playing this way with a back four of Neville - Terry - Ferdinand - Cole then there is not a hope in hell that it would work with our current defence.

If we are going to move forward we need to stop giving every young player a cap after one good game. We need to get a clear footballing philosophy for our under 21's and allow them to learn their trade there and then join the senior squad.

We have an easy qualifying group for the Euro's and its the perfect chance to take the likes of Barkley, Shaw, Sterling and Ox out of the senior team. Let them learn to play a style with the rest of the U21's and hope a large proportion of that team can make the step up to the seniors. Whilst that may weaken our senior team it will pay dividends in the long run. We would still have players like Rooney, Sturridge, Wilshere, Walcott available and the team should be more than good enough to qualify.

At the minute all we try to do is replace the ageing players with younger ones and hope for the best. If we actually allowed are U21's to progress together like Spain do then it will benefit the senior team. This means Hodgson has to stop taking young players like Rodwell and Shaw out of the U21's for meaningless friendlies or matches when he has no intention of playing them.

Forget systems and style's of play, people are missing
The most obvious flaw, most of the British players can't do
The basic things like control a ball, pass and move or look up and see the big picture.
Technical ability is shocking.
When they learn these basic things then you can play any system or style.

No coincidence that the players who sing their national anthem with vigor and passion have performed well. Have love for the badge and what it stands for and the performance will take care of itself.
That's just typical English bollocks that mate.

I want my team to play football, not sing dreary songs. If I wanted singers, I might have sent out a team of X-Factor finalists instead.

Simple really, the FA is Englands problem. Instead of putting the money required in for Coaches, equipment and training centers across the country they fuck about spending money on Wembley and worrying about Sponsorship deals. When you have as few a coaches as the UK does and have kids being coached by dads just wanting to win, playing 11 v 11 on full size pitches so the only way to win is to hoof it and getting changed in shitty little huts. In comparison to what other countries have put in place, England has no chance. The entire system is geared to kick and run.

I believe Sky are running a campaign highlighting how much money has been cut from the grass roots game. At first, when I saw it a couple of months ago(when the Chancellor announced the Budget), I thought they just wanted attention. They ran the report, again, just prior to the World Cup.

Then, last week, I saw that the Gov are accusing schools of not providing enough in terms of sports!!

LOL!!

You can't cut school sports and public sporting access and expect success.

This austerity drive is also setting the country back beyond any recovery, sports-wise.

Crowing about the London Games and the country not benefiting at grass roots level is madness. This country will be 'winner' free inside 10 years.

I also heard or read somewhere last week that the FA-run UEFA coaching courses are much more difficult to get on in England (and much, much more expensive) than the identical courses run by the FAs of mainland Europe. It seems that our entire system is absolutely knackered from top to bottom.

Spot on. This world cup I have finally come to terms with the fact, that a lot of our players
really realy aren't good enough.
