Enzo Maresca

If you believe certain people then Maresca has been the number one replacement for Pep for a long time so surely we weren't mental enough to go and sign Donna for a big fee and contract knowing full well the next man in doesnt want him.

Maybe it was always expected Donna would be here for a couple years to finish out pep's contract, try win another CL etc.

I dont think we would struggle to sell him but still.
For me, Gigi has shown two or three key aspects to his game, and they don’t all flatter him.

1. Brilliant shotstopper and the size to cut down angles very well.

2. Poor domination of his 6 yard box on dead balls and crosses. Soft af from corners for a 2m keeper with a serious wingspan.

3. Joe Hart-like footwork.

4. Spills and parries far more balls than I would like to see from a City #1.

I think Trafford has shown himself to be, or the potential to be, an improvement in 2 through 4, and possibly even 1…with the added advantage of being young and English.

Post-WC26, I think he has the potential to become Englands #1 for a decade and we would be foolish to let him leave for anything less than an eye-watering price, and even then I’d be hard-pressed to sacrifice him.

It feels crazy to say Gigi does not appear to be built for the rough and tumble of the PL. He moans like a porn star and has more yellow cards than 80% of the first team, usually because he’s flopped about and no-one has fallen for it. Then, in the next minute, he makes an unbelievable save!

I think he’s destined for a return to Italy, because I think Maresca would prefer to elevate Trafford to #1 solely on his “keeper sweeper” capabilities.

May we live in interesting times…

I think the smart action would be to keep The Don next season and put James in loan with a guarantee of being No.1 from 27/28.... we've been down a similar road before but, like you I do think Trafford will be much more valuable in the squad than Gigi in the coming years and to flog him off albeit for likely a very good price will end up biting us on the arse for many years to come.

Personally, I’d keep him in house, make sure he got games, and tell him he’s the future, so sign an extension (and STFU in the media, we got this!).

I think the stronger his bond and understanding of the players around him, the better, more confident, at ease goalkeeper he will become. That only comes from immersion in the secret sauce that is the CFA training environment.

Good luck, Temu Pep.

A lot of blues will need to lower their season's expectations and support him, along with his methods.
hahahaha....Temu Pep! I'd have gone with Ali Express Pep, but happy to play along.

On Donnarumma’s kicking game, n’all:

1. Good short passing game, much better than he’s given credit for
2. Very poor long passing game, can only just get the ball past the halfway line and when he does it’s erratic and often nowhere near where he’s aiming. Often this puts us under undue pressure as the opposition get the ball back to attack us. This season we have faced more shots on our goal than any season under Pep.

I genuinely hope he’s great but I can only go with observing him at Leicester and Chelsea and say that he seems a somewhat flawed character, and in terms of available managers with premier league experience I am much more impressed by Iraola’s work at Bournemouth, his development of players, the energy and work rate of his team and the standard of football delivered with meagre resources is phenomenal. However the club no more about football than I do, and whether I like it or not the decision is made. All the best Enzo, you have the toughest act to follow, and if you are half as good as Pep you’ll be fucking great

Found this video really interesting - incredibly similar philosophy to Pep in the way they want to attack, control the game and have a numerical advantage.

Lets celebrate Pep for a while. But I am reasonably excited about what tweaks Maresca could do to make this team better
