Lots of teenagers on here saying pay whatever it takes, just get it done, etc.

Thankfully the club has better sense as otherwise we'd have overpaid for Sanchez, Fred and Maguire.

His fee, agent/father fee and wage requests have clearly put off all clubs.

Then there is the chance he would run down the contract to force the club to get an even bigger contract or go elsewhere for a huge signing on fee.

His agent is trouble. Fantastic player but hope we stay clear.

Loads on here didn't want those players because they are shit. Nobody is ever going to say Haaland is shit, his goals and assists speak for themselves. He's worth it

You make it out like the club has some great sense of player worth. There is also the other side where we thought Van Dijk was too much

IIRC, we were offered VVD for £8m when he was at Celtic. We declined & paid £30m for Mangala, & Southampton paid up & took him. The rest is history.... :-|
If we are going that far back, then yeah,we should have took the opportunity.Him and Denayer were a wonderfully complimentary pairing, and it seemed something of a no brainer.

You'd rather Van Dijk than Dias?

Van Dijk isn't a great leader. Threw his goalkeepers under the bus whenever they made a mistake. Can't imagine Dias ever doing that.

Happy with City's judgement on this.

Was it judgement? or more the way things worked out?

Had we signed VVD,and we wanted to,then Dias almost certainly would be showing his brilliance elsewhere.

I love Dias and i wouldnt swap him....but i'd have been very happy with either.

The Kane/Ronaldo things seems to have triggered the sort of feelings City fans had a decade ago where we wanted to sign every player in world football.

We have a squad, an academy, can only play eleven players at one time, and have a specific profile and philosophy about who we sign. There will of course be players who got away, or who we looked at and decided against but worked out elsewhere, or who are world-class who don't want to play for us. That's football. There isn't another English club who wouldn't swap what we've had in the last decade and who half our team wouldn't walk into the starting eleven of any club on the planet.
