Erling Haaland

No because they wre never seriously linked, is they denied every rumour they'd be doing about 5 a day through the summer.

Either way, new window next sunmer, new prices and what not, changed landscape. Internationals for two weeks now too, so a few will have to come up with rumours to fill the hyperspace columns.

I can see us going for haaland more than for kane, purely hecause there is a release clause and his asking price is halved, where as Kane's won't have shifted drastically. Putting aside the fact he is a better player, younger, etc etc. But fully get that more clubs will be after him, and agent will have demands, what's enough and what isn't, time will tell.

If I had to guess and we are all just guessing I'd say the likelihood of our new striker next season is
Vlahavic ,Haaland,Nunez, Kane probably in that order. Just a big fat guess though based on nothing more than rumours.

I’d agree with that. I’d say city would prefer haaland but that’s the order of likelihood too IMO.

Our top scorer currently. With so miluch potential, and time on his side. I'm disappointed he hasn't been involved more tbh, I suspect there is a bit of a dance going on with Sterling just now though, and contract talks.
He is a good player, and he does have great potential, but he is very much a spare part currently and that will be increased further when a striker arrives.....so why not try and kill two birds with one stone and offer an attractive player in part ex?

We also have Palmer and McAtee, amongst others, kicking the front door down.....they are not less talented than Torres IMO.

As for the Sterling factor,of the two id sooner Torres be kept but i dont see the former being up for a move there, and nor do i see them coughing up his wages.

Erling has scored more than anyone except Lewandowski in 2021. Bearing in mind he was 20 years old for half of the year. That's insanely impressive. I still think he'll prove too expensive, but he's clearly the best striker we could possibly buy right now.

Personally don't care if he only stayed for five years then left for Madrid or somewhere. Five years of a 40-goal-a-season striker is worth it.

Worth what though ? Or more to the point what do the club think he's worth / can afford ?

The club can afford him I don't doubt, but I can't see us actually paying what his agent will ask for. Transfer fee? No problem. All due respect to Grealish, but if we paid £100m for him we'll easily be able to afford Haaland's fee.

Can't see us giving Raiola what he wants though. And even if we did, PSG or someone will just offer a bit more than us.

And as I say, if the club thought Grealish justified £100m, something is seriously wrong if they don't think Haaland justifies his reported release clause.

The fee is no issue IMO, and if the rumoured 40 mill euros for his dad and Raiola are true, I think we'd pay that too, unless they try and increase that because of a lower fee, Then we might have reservations. I think any sticking point would be if they create a wages bidding war. That's where we will draw a line we won't cross. Wouldn't want to hazard a guess what that would be though.

Hard to disagree with. Swapping out nunez maybe or omitting altogether.

Where vlahovic maybe offers something that Haaland doesnt, is that he could come with less pressure to be 'an option' player rather than assumed the main focus of a formation. I.e pep could still play the false 9 roaming midfield and have a striker for games that need one, whereas with haaland it is probanly a bit more of a chance as a whole. But he does have the pace and ability to also fit in the role aguero did previously.
