Erling Haaland

All the numbers join up, sadly, for Madrid, as you say.

Having had £171m rejected for Mbappe this summer, they can afford to now take him on a free, pay £70m buyout for Haaland, and use the other £100m in signing fees/wages for both.
I wouldn’t be surprised if Salah ended up there next summer, as well!
Liverpool will have to smash their wage structure, or go into the new season with Salah able to leave for free In July 2023.

That's not in question.

What is was why Pep wanted Kane over Haaland. Knowledge is power and City must know Haaland's position.

My argument is that if Haaland doesn't want to know, then Kane remains the best, attainable target.

Assuming that was the case to begin with, and that it hasn't or won't change (re knowing where Haaland's mind is made up if it is), I still don't think kane is the best or even attainable option.

If it was, the club would have gone to bigger lengths to get him, would not have stopped trying right till the end of the window, and would not have tried elsewhere.

We went back in for Laporte. We went back in for Mahrez. Both had a level of legwork already done. We may well end up similarly going back in for Kane. I do think (and hope) we have chosen to move on.

I'm sure he'd come here, maybe we're even at the top of his list, but I get the sense he'd be open to moving to just about any big club. And it seems like we'd have to break our wage structure, and pay Mino a ridiculous fee, to get this across the line. And I can't see the club doing that. But what the hell do I know. We'll see what happens.
Players shoulddrag themselves to City, plenty have in the past. There is no other footballing project on earth that has all the advantages he can get at City.

If he is so hung up on PSG offering him an extra 300k a week and Raiola telling Alf hes getting an extra 10m from them as well then good luck to the lad.

Kane wants to be at City and seemingly did all he could in the summer to get here.

He joined Dortmund in January.

Not on a release clause that kicked in mid season.

No doubt he can move in january, the point is whether we find that one abstract guess that his release clause kicks in in January believable. I don't.

They are clearing the decks for a new generation.

Varane and Ramos were big earners, Bezema, Modric and Marcelo are also in the twilight of their careers.

Ronaldo's wages have been removed for two seasons and this is still a club that thought nothing of buying Zidane and Figo!

Madrid have always been about making statements, even one that saw a diminishing Hazard join for £120m.

It's shit or bust for them next summer because if they don't try and go big, they will be dead in the water for the next decade.
I think you’re still missing the point that it’s not a given that they will both be happy to play in the same team as each other. Someone nailed it on here the other day with a post about it, they are the next Messi and Ronaldo and will probably want to be the star man at different teams rather than competing for the adulation with the same fans.

I just can’t see it. Might be wrong but we will see.

Pep wanted Kane because he wanted a striker this summer just gone, and Haaland wasn’t attainable.

Next summer is a whole new ball game.

I agree with you wholeheartedly - especially when either way he will be rich beyond our wildest imaginations. But it's his right to seek out the highest paying contract, and I won't drag him for it. Maybe he will ultimately take a discount in his move, but hiring Mino seems to signal otherwise.

I agree with this. I think while Mbappe is nailed on for Madrid, I can't see him wanting share the spotlight again with another star after low key feuding with Neymar their entire time at PSG. They've always taken sly digs at one another since their first year there so I doubt KM's camp will want to run that back.
