Brilliant player but if he walks in on 500k a week, I'm worried it will ruin the team dynamics. Doesn't look good when a player walks in on double the wage of some who have grafted at City for years. Never struck me as a Pep type player either.

But that's not how sports salaries work.

Once a superstar raises the top wage, all of the other wages eventually rise when agents inevitably play the "Well if X gets 500k/wk for bagging 30 goals last season, surely my player who netted 10 times is worth 166k/wk" card.

Other professionals welcome the rising wage structures and it's the top players who drive it.
