Not neccesarily. There's nothing to agree if we're simply activating his release clause but city won't be too keen to pay his release clause in its entirety in one go which will likely be required to activate it.

City will definitely want to come to some kind of arrangement with Dortmund that spreads the cost probably meaning we pay a good chunk more than his release. There's also the issue of wanting to keep in their good books, they've been one of the best at nurturing world class talent over recent past, it's not unlikely we will be looking to do business with them again in the near future, Bellingham for example should be high on our list imo so good relations is a must.

Good relations, yes, but why would we want to spread the payments? Even if we haven't got the cash in the safe, we'll have a facility to borrow it just like every other club.
