Erling Haaland

Think a lot will come down to the Sancho situation too. I can’t see that Dortmund would want or need to sell both.
They may see what offers come in and take into account other factors
like the players attitudes, sell on clauses, Sancho getting to the last 2 years of his contract.
Lots of things need to align on the players, Dortmunds and our side for it to happen. They might well happen but nothing is certain.
Selling Sancho and keeping Haaland would be possibly the stupidest thing Dortmund could go.

They would end up with under €150M for players who should get €200M combined.

Sancho was worth €100M last summer, now his value has decreased to about €50-70M but could go back up.

They would easily get €100M for Haaland this summer, but if they keep him they can only get €75M next summer.

Selling Sancho this summer and keeping Haaland trapped would lose them €40-60M.

I'll be surprised if Covid doesn't affect it, Dortmund like everybody (even us) are smarting.

If the stories are true then Haaland is on €115 thousand a week for the first 2 years and then on €154 thousand a week for the remaining 2 years. If he was to extend they'd have to raise his wages a fair chunk. Could they afford to pay it, and without upsetting the rest of the team?

The release clause only has to be met to allow a team to talk to the player, there's no advantage in paying more to Dortmund unless Haaland feels he owes it to them. Any fee over the clause would go to him as a signing on fee. It could be a bidding war next year but it would be between the teams bidding and Haaland, not Dortmund. Hopefully it's not just about money to him, in which case I think we have a great shout.
Time will tell I guess, I don't share your confidence though, I think there is a lot of wishful thinking in there.

Ha, maybe. If I don't have positive thoughts about City though I'm not sure where that would leave me at the moment.
He does seem perfect for City though, we could welcome back his dad too for the unveiling and he could bash United instead of being nice about Keane. Ok the last part wont happen but he clearly has to hate United.

Yes I'm aware of the release clause, they'll still have a figure in mind that they want for him and will go to great lengths to achieve it. COVID wont change that IMO. Dortmund could give Daniel Levy a run for his money in the thrifty stakes. United thought they'd get Sancho for the price United wanted and in the end Dortmund said "Nah we'd rather keep him". I think they are prepared to lose out short term, so clubs are less inclined to haggle too much long term, in other transfers(a sort of strategy). They seem to be a well run club and I don't think they are one of the clubs that will be struggling with debts and they'll still be getting a big fee for Haaland whatever happens. They are in a pretty good position and are used to situations like this.

In my opinion if they get the figure they want this summer he will leave, if not, he could just as easily sign an extension in the summer with a statement from Dortmund "He's staying, part of our future" etc and then they raise the release clause. It all depends on his relationship with Dortmund. As I understand it, it's not just the first club who triggers the release clause either, the player has to agree too. So even if no extension is signed, that will probably still end up just being a minimum fee to get the bidding war going.

I'm not looking to fall out with anyone over this, I just don't think it will be as simple as some are making out. It will be a massive coup if we sign him.
Do pardon me if I sounded hostile in my OP, not my intention.

I agree with you, there's every chance Dortmund extends his contract. Think no one is really sure till the summer arrives. To add on, whether Dortmund can secure CL next season might have a huge impact too.

Sancho wouldn't go back up in value because if they keep him until 22 he is then going into the last year of his contract. If Sancho is worth 70 mill now he won't be worth more going into his last year, maybe less. So selling Sancho the most they are riskng is the Haaland difference probably about 25 mill euros. They might think it's worth 25 mill to keep the better player for a year. It wouldn't be that stupid.

Or he doesn't extend but thinks staying there for another year would suit his development better. Then it would be all bets off in 2022.

Nah, you weren't hostile but I was just making that bit clear all the same, as people seem to be getting worked up over this one. Across the online space in general, not just BM.

They need to either sell or extend Sancho this summer, that's pretty much a certainty.

If we are serious about him we need to make an offer that Niobody can match which we are capable off . This is not a position for us to fuck around with. I still have a feeling we are gonna go for Nunez from benfica which I really hope we don’t .

You don’t have to worry about that lol

Where did I claim that?

He's not going to go from (a claimed) £100,00 a week to KdB money with anyone on his next transfer, that would leave any club with absolutely nowhere to go in renegotiations and would seriously piss off an entire playing staff. He's just 20 years old after all.
He'll go to Barca, Real or psg and be on mega money. 4-500k a week.

Won’t be going to Barca they can’t afford him and PSG won’t go for him unless they lose Mbappe. Not sure he’d want PSG anyway. Madrid only if they can sell players, though think they would go for Mbappe first.

The Spanish clubs seem to find a way. So do PSG for that matter. Whether it's selling a training ground or a loan with an option to buy. Either way, we're not going to be involved in the bun fight.

Ofc they could find a way but why would Haaland, who's had his career carefully crafted thus far, want to join Barca/Madrid in their current state. Yes they're the biggest clubs in Europe but you'd be a fool to want to join them when they both desperately need a rebuild tobe competitive.

Money and the knowledge that they'll be back to where they were soon enough. Honestly mate, it's not our style. We've just had to release a statement regarding Messi.
