It is totally naive to write off big clubs spending big and having no money. Never been an issue before.

I don't see us selling sterling, no way. Not becsuse other clubs have no money, but because our club want him here.

Regardless, 70m is a ridiculous selfselected hypothetical undervaluation of our player, just like 15m for zinchenko is, or other such examples, in a market where harry kane is assumed to be worth 120m and other players go for big asking fees.

Thats all I'll say on this somewhat pointless tangent.
Raz is a a bit of a pointless tangent. But the fact that football clubs are in the financial shit is an underlooked issue.

At the end of the 19-20 season, Madrid's gross debt stood at 901 million euros and their net debt had risen to 355 million euros. Of the net debt, 241 million euros doesn't relate to the Bernabeu renovation, which counts for 114 million of the net debt.
If you compare these numbers with Barça, the 355 million net debt is less than Barça 488 million net debt, which the club revealed in October.

However, it's the short-term debt that is Barça's biggest concern. They have a gross debt of 730 million in the short-term, while Madrid's is just 203 million.
These figures cover last year with no fans and there is more bad news to come. There is also the outstanding tax case against both. I can only see both clubs having a quiet summer.

based on what your saying stones and cancelo would have been sold. Sterling has proven over a few years how good he is for us. Would make no sense at all to sell him because of one average season. Could easily win us a trophy this season

maybe its sterling wanting a move away and back to london
pep does not drop somebody unless for rotation. but sterling is out of the first 11 for some reason and he is not happy
yes pep can leave you out for weeks and weeks or months/years. but sterling looks like a ghost of the player he was and he needs game time for his england place in the summer

i love sterling and has worked so hard on his game under pep. yes he scored big goals and won titles and silverware
but we can not carry players anymore ? we have to be ruthless and want more from sterling and jesus in the goals department. city are signing a main striker in the summer even could be 2 strikers coming in. sterling if not daft and it would mean less big game time and sterling will not be happy being a squad player

also it maybe the right time for a move for sterling and if a london are sniffing around sterling could be used as a player swap. i hope am wrong but something happening with sterling the smile and hunger is not there at the moment

The fact that this has happened a second time, should be getting a lot more attention. They clearly don't want the cameras to pick up what they are saying. This is very common among many players across all professional sports.
They're actually caught in the act "sportswashing". They did the same at the Etihad. They swapped shirts last week and Phil recommended a launderette in Manchester: Haaland returned the favour on Wednesday so Phil wouldn't have to take a sweaty Dortmund shirt home.

I have heard Sterling express a desire to play in Spain, "at some point in his career". He's on £300k/wk and is apparently looking to increase that? there's only a small number of clubs, with players in that bracket. Foden is on £12k/wk apparently!
Kane is currently on £200k/wk.

some eyebrows raised there ?

foden will not be on £12K a week

Sterling shouldn't be on 300k if he's not an automatic starter, simple as that. Nevermind getting an increase, which he is apparently requesting. It's a funny situation.
There is no should or shouldn't.The club decide his value to the squad. He accepts or doesn't. Sometimes he'll be a starter sometimes he won't, depends on form and Peps choices. At the moment he's of thepace, next season he'll probably be back.

I'm saying that it sets a dangerous precedent if players who aren't automatic starters are on 300k or above. I reckon he will be offered an extension of his current salary and no more. Still earning too much imo.

We probably only have 4 automatic starters the rest rotate fairly regulary., apart from the last month or so Sterling started more than most. He's a senior player. The club will offer what they feel fit. Whether it;s over £300k or nor isn't our problem.

If you pay peanuts you end up with Gerry Creanies.
Salah, Kane and Rashford are all on £200k. The only outfield players in the PL on more than £300k are KDB and Bale. Son is on £140k. We have to be very careful with the level of pay we set.

I posted in another thread some 2020 PL player wages but I will copy it below because it's relevant:
KDB 350, Sterling 300, Sergio 230, Ferny & Bernardo 150, Gundo 140, Rodri 121, Mahrez & Laporte 120, Dias 115, Walker 110, Stones 100, Ake 92, Jesus & Mendy 90, Cancelo 80, Ederson 65, Torres & Steffan 46, Sandler 38, Carson 25, Zinc 20, Garcia 14, Foden 12

The highest earners at some other PL clubs:
Liverpool are Salah and Thiago at 200, VVD and Fermino at 180.

At United De Gea is 375, Pogba 290, Martial 250, Cavani 210, Rashford 200.

Chelsea's are Chilwell 190, Werner 170, Pulisic 159, Kepa 150, Azpilicueta 145, Kante 144.

Spur's are Bale 600, Kane & Ndombele 200, Son 140

Zinc 20K...... Ake 92k, Mendy 90k, Sandler 38k scandalous, I hope the club put that right and quickly.

Clearly he wouldn't be offered that now,but he was deemed worthy of such a contract when the club expected him to push on from his brilliant form at the time.
Haaland will certainly want parity,at least.
