Erling Haaland

Probably not, but Haaland is the only one who could replicate it. I'd much rather sign someone who could give us that same buzz we had when signing Aguero and seeing him first play than someone who will always be a divisive figure that fans will never 100% take to.
We’ve come a long way when a man who has scored 166 goals in the prem, 3 golden boots, most assists last year could even be classed as divisive. Either way I’ll take it.

Can't judge Kane based on playing for England under Southgate. Southgate's line up and tactics have made every player look poor bar Mings and Phillips. Which says it all really. I bet a lot England fans are wondering why all the fuss about Foden right now.

I’d take him for free, no doubt!

However, when you have a manager who refuses to shape a team around players and shoehorns players into his system, and the player has one contract left in him, and he will demand £10M+ in wages, AND WILL COST AROUND £100M…with other, younger players on the market…I think “divisive” is a reasonable contention.

This is starting to sound like all the shite people throw about Messi. Along the lines of how dare he be so greedy, who does he think he is, he’s the manager not the man on the sidelines, clearly injured but picks himself, he decides who gets to be picked when he plays and so forth...

For the record he’s done fuck all for Argentina as well but I won’t hold it against him.

He has scored their only goal in one game and set up the only goal in the other. He has won them the points they have.

I do agree on the overall point though, about judging players on internationals.

Phillips had a good 30 minutes in the first match and Mings has looked like Mings, average.

Southgate is a average/poor manager, but so many of our players are hugely over hyped and overrated.

Haaland or Kane would be fine. We need to make a statement. That said, we must also remember Torres performance against Newcastle in the position he played. Pre-season friendlies should give us a better picture of his potential in that role. Can still go big on a striker whilst giving Torres his chance too.

This forced narrative that he is an avid City fan,is just seeking to fill a void, and wanting an emotional connection, like with Silva,VK and Aguero, and it's weird.

Release yourselves from these shackles. He just isn't a City fan, well at least, not anymore, since he turned pro.
He's now been a 'fan' of Bryne,Molde,
Salzburgand,for now,BVB.That's just football.

His affiliation to the club is just a product of his environment back then, and as a result of growing around the club when his dad was here.

He was in that Norway City FB group, but he still had to leave, cause fanatism and pro football rarely mix.Whilst he probably still has good feelings about us,that's just that.Take it for what it is.The idea that he sleeps in a City kit, wakes up and sleeps to BM,
dreams about us etc,is just gash.He will always celebrate when he scores against us,like I would expect him to

Sure,in an ideal world,Alfie would like him to come here but we also have to be realistic..
The set of conditions,,close to 200 M € to force BVB to sell, wages that would break our structure, agent fees to both Alfie and Raiola, among other things, take the whole operation well north of 300 M €..make it economically impossible and absurd,at least for us,anyway

Any other year I think most of us would be buzzing to get Kane, he's a top striker and will score a ton if goal for us.....however, one of the most prolific youngsters who happens to be a City fan and wants to play at the etihad is possible up for sale, for the right price!

And that's the only thing I have against Kane, sad really, as he's guaranteed to score and will be pretty much perfect.

Something for us ALL to note is, the bosses at City are used to turning down young talents who support their club (most Spanish kids would have loved to play for Barcelona), it probably went on year after year making tough decisions for the strength of the squad. Its maybe something we all need to get used to in the coming years, it's not really a bad thing.....but right at this moment I'll be gutted to see Haaland in a Chelsea shirt.
I keep seeing people say haaland is wants to come to city and is some huge fan but why do you think this?

If we are going off the actions of his dad and agent who went on a nice trip around Spain it doesn’t appear to me he is desperate to come does it? Meeting Chelsea recently doesn’t exactly strike me as a guy who has his heart set on just city either tbh. He certainly has a soft sport for city but to call him a fan is a bit of a leap imo. He has publicly said previously his dream is to play in the premier league with leeds i cant find any similar statements online about us.

Im certain city have sounded him out know what the costs involved would be and going by most media reports he has priced himself out of a move to us. We won’t pay those reported wages or the fees his agent and dad are after.

If he was set on a move we would get it done see Mahrez, kdb, Sterling etc. It’s always the same thing with city talk to player get him to agree to the contract etc make him aware if he talks to another club we will pull out we then negotiate with the club knowing full well the player won’t entertain another offer elsewhere which obviously strengthens our negotiation and we can drive down the price. Like we saw with Sanchez, maguire etc we don’t get involved in bidding wars and clearly haaland isn’t prepared to say he only wants city which most likely prices us out of a move.

Harland will cost but you either get longevity or 100mill back when he moves on, So probably works out lot cheaper than Kane.

You wrote several paragraphs about something that no one here seems to base their opinions about. I can’t recall a single poster saying he should come here due to his affiliation to City. That is always just a side comment, sometimes even jokingly so. But I don’t see the problem in saying the was part of a supporters group on Facebook until not long ago, for instance.

As for the money part at the end of your post, it’s all speculative. You and I don’t know the real numbers as it hasn’t been made official. The numbers talked around the possible Kane deal, for instance, also seem to be north of reality— but if you want to believe the more extreme numbers about Haaland, I could also believe the ones about Kane. When BVB starts leaking numbers, what it tells me is they’re willing to negotiate. And in this case, we don’t know exactly how our club would be willing to negotiate, the creativity involved, and also what cards Raiola (who is the partner here, not the enemy) has to play with BVB for us. By all accounts, we have been involved in this negotiation for a long time, and it would be wild to think we wouldn’t have an idea of the figures involved since the beginning. Also wild is thinking Chelsea can afford something we couldn’t, for instance, especially given what is at stake, as I have previously discussed on this thread
