Etihad Atmosphere - 2021/22

It's started already with Newcastle.

Warren Barton on Sky this morning saying Newcastle won't have any trouble selling out every game, not like City.

"Even Pep has come out and said the fans don't turn up for their games. But Newcastle has a bigger fan base than City, and were getting 52k in the second tier."

Absolute bollocks of course. And that's not what Pep said. But it's clear that's the narrative the football world believes and is running with.

Another PR disasterclass by the club. The way the club hang us out to dry with the ticket office fiasco and do nothing to defend the fans in the media, it's almost as if the club want to alienate the local fans..

The club is world class in everything but it's PR department.

I've read on here they do stuff behind the scenes but they're not great at getting a message out or countering a viewpoint to the wider football public.

The problem is having the whole level 1 tier behind the north goal as the family stand. That side of the ground its literally dead. The stands normally behind a goal are suppose to suck the ball in. It needs to be moved. If you have the south stand tier 1 and north stand tier 1 as the stands were its cheaper tickets and classed as singing areas. The singing will fill the ground rather than it coming just from one side every single game.

Some people seem to think the job of the club's media team is to stop fans of other clubs and fans of other clubs who are also journalists saying mean things about us. Rather than building a world leading social media strategy.
Our advertisers and investors want media coverage to show their logo. They are not interested in the story what puts it there(some cases excepted. Yes Mr Mendy i'm looking at you)

Lot to take on board there.
1.think i saw warren Barton on some dodgy streams from America back in the day, he seemed very pro city at the time. he may well only have the reporting of games by the media to go off attendances and just believes the drivel the rag tops churn out

2. He's probably right on the fanbase, and they are close to Liverpool fans on the cult following front. Being the recently most successful club in a City/large area will do that for you.

3. Pep should have kept his gob shut to be honest, he scored a spectacular overhead kick volley from the halfway line own goal with his impassioned comments and were always going to be manipulated by our rag/dipper infested media

4. Can't see how our PR team are to blame for what is going on in Newcastle, but dignified silence followed by we do our talking on the pitch and balance sheet seems to be our way of dealing with the cretins in our media
1. He's definitely regurgitating the shite the red tops churn out. But that's the precise problem I'm highlighting. They are churning out shite and falsehoods about the club and the fan base, and the fact our PR department has let that false narrative circulate and done nothing to express the truth, is appalling.

2. We've had higher average attendances than them for each of the last 5 seasons. We also play around 50% more home games than them per season. Let's see if they're selling out midweek against Cluj in the CL in 10 years time.

3. Pep dropped a bit of a bollock. Even if he didn't mean to insult the fans, if he was a bit more UK media savvy he'd have known the direction the press would have run with it. But that is my point, the PR department should be media savvy! They should either be briefing Pep on how to repair the damage, or should be repairing the damage themselves in another way.

4. I never suggested out PR department has anything to do with Newcastle. They are responsible for the way the club is viewed in the press and by the wider public. If the press, the wider public and Warren Barton are misinformed and think we have a shit, small, disloyal fanbase who can afford to go to 60 plus games a season but they choose not to because they're not loyal and have no passion because we're a plastic club, then the PR department are directly responsible for that.

World class at everything except PR and the ticket office.

As I say, the local, match going fans are the absolute bottom priority for the club and it absolutely fucking stinks.

And on another note, Newcastle recently gave away 10,000 season tickets for free because they were struggling to sell tickets.

I’ve got absolutely nothing against Newcastle and think they have decent fans. But so have City, and I don’t think anyone connected with Newcastle has any place in criticising City fans loyalty like Warren Barton did.

Our comms dept have always been shit, and I can only imagine Vicky Kloss is still in a job because she has dirt on someone.

But the total disregard for match going fans seems like a fairly recent development to me, and I can’t quite figure it out.

I do think it’s a tad weird that there’s an idea that somehow the club should be stamping their feet about people saying stuff like city don’t sell out etc…

thats what that stuff is all about trying to provoke a reaction. Real fans of all teams don’t care about that kind of crap.

are you really bothered what these losers on social media and armchair fans of other clubs think that take this crap in or people you know who you can have genuine mickey taking with?

Eh? Where did I say any of that?

Couldn’t give a fuck about the ‘empty seats’ thing. I’ve not mentioned that.
