Etihad Atmosphere - 2021/22

I was there with my oldest and it was great Paul, I think it was helped by (a) being a long way in a Saturday evening and (b) due to this more ticket availability for people who often don’t qualify for away tickets. Having said that I think our away support is always great
I agree but then I also think that the home atmosphere is 98% fantastic. So maybe I see the world through rose/rainbow coloured specs? ;-) (They are actually reactolite so it's probably that!!) :-)

Thank you mate. I appreciate the positive feedback. We'll keep chugging along trying to improve the atmosphere.... slowly but surely.

Also worth mentioning that some of the people we deal with at City are brilliant and want the same thing as us (a bouncing atmosphere at the Etihad).
Keep up the good work mate. It’s weird, but in response to where we’re we when we were shit, we were making a lot more noise than now. Too many have become complacent. Old age isn’t an issue cos a lot of us FOC’s still make a load of noise

I wish 98% made noise though Eccles, there is a lot more than 2% just sit on their hands. I know you don’t (sit on your hands) I can hear you shouting for John Stones from the family stand!

*lol* not just JB though, don't you hear me shout come on Bernie and Raz, show 'em what you're made off and shut them all up? (Not the Raz ones in the same shout!) :-) But you are right, JB gets the loudest shout.

There’s an awful lot of younger Blues could do with a lesson in passionate support from you EB

Update from us (1894) ahead of the next few games. Obviously, the atmosphere will take care of itself on Sunday, but we've been working with the club for months on ways we can improve the acoustics in the stadium (especially in block 115).

We've made a very subtle change on a couple of rows that we think could make a big impact. It should help us ramp up the volume (so the songs spread) and keep songs going for longer. I don't want to go into too much detail, but it will be interesting to see if there's a noticeable difference from this minor trial as it will be easily replicable across the standing section and perhaps the whole stadium. If you are attending the game on Sunday I'd love to hear feedback next week if you noticed anything different.

We do have a display planned for Sunday. We'll unfurl it around 10 mins before KO. Any photos would be appreciated.
We've also planned for hundreds of Ukraine flags to be distributed in the North Stand (and a few in the South Stand) to be held during the minutes silence.

The time and effort you lads/lasses must be putting in to improve the home atmosphere deserves respect. I'm guessing a good number of you are getting to away games aswell, as the atmosphere this season has improved big time. Keep up the good work and just ignore any negative feedback as I reckon most fans are with you.

Thank you!

We do have quite a few members going home, away and Europe who try and get it going. Without wanting to stir the hornet's nest I think two big changes have helped away the atmosphere:

1 - no ticket points, so no incentive for points hoarders to give tickets to their mates (perhaps meaning more passionate fans who have clocked up a lot of ticket points can now use them)?

2 - the club now allocates a % of away tickets to younger fans (under 25s) regardless of ticket points. So, perhaps they are creating more of a racket? Not that older fans are all quiet, but especially in 115 there are a lot of noisy younger fans.

Not City related, but the £30 price cap that we (1894) were involved in (with the FSF and other fan groups) has definitely made away games more affordable which could have helped too.

All we can do as City fans (whether it's 1894, City Matters or just individual fans) is keep providing ideas to the club and hold them accountable to tweak and alter things to see what works. The changes they've implemented to away tickets have undoubtedly helped - but we shouldn't get complacent. Continuous improvement! :P

That's interesting. I've always stated that the stadium acoustics are the biggest problem here - singing on the lower tier doesn't carry properly. I've always wondered if some kind of cladding on the lower tier roof would improve things. I hope that's what you're trialling. As it stands the concrete roof over the lower tier deadens the sounds and stops it carrying upwards. And the away fans mean that the two singing sections can't hear each other.

I went Sheffield United vs Swansea 3 weeks ago as a mate is a blade, he warned us before the game not to expect much from the atmosphere and we were In the end that they call the Kop,

However three of us who’d be in the group 18-25 who were a bit pissed but stood together were making a right racket and others joined in around us, we had people shake our hand on the way out saying it was the best all season in a game they won 4-0 and Swansea were dogshite.

We need to get groups of people who want to sing directly behind the goal on the first tier at the southstand and the rest will take care of itself, if I wasn’t going to sing I’d want to sit anywhere else in the ground as the view is fairly poor
