Etihad Atmosphere - 2021/22

Woman behind me asked me to sit down after 2 minutes. It got a bit heated, but I refused to sit down to satisfy people behind me when I’m right beside the away fans in the biggest game of the season.

As it was it was pretty good in SS3 but if we all sit down it will forever be poor.

I'm all for being considerate of those around you, but if you're in ss3 or elsewhere near the away fans then you should expect to stand.

I was a bit miffed everyone around me kept sitting on and off. Liverpool in 2019 we were standing the whole time.

I thought the atmosphere in SS L1 was weirdly a bit flat yesterday. My voice has completely gone and a few of us gave it our all but it was not a patch on the 2019 Liverpool game or the Spurs champions league game - two of the best atmospheres we’ve had since leaving Maine Road IMO.

Don’t get me wrong it was okay yesterday but not the full on heated raucous hostile place I expected.

And I include the away fans in that. Heard the scruffy twats singing maybe twice and I stand right next to them in 115.

A different kind of game yesterday.

The 2019 Liverpool game, we were the ones chasing down leaders Liverpool. It was more of a desperate to win atmosphere.
The Spurs game we were 0-1 down on agg. to start the game, and also behind 1-3 on agg. when Son scored two. It was again more of a desperate to win atmosphere.

Yesterday, the atmosphere was different. It must have been good because I’d lost my voice by half time, which has never happened before, and everyone around me was screaming and shouting. But it was much more of a nervous atmosphere, as it was more of a “must not lose” game than a “must win” game.

All very true I suppose - for both teams really.

Klopp and Pep would both have taken a draw before the game I suspect.

I thought it was really good in SSL3 but it was noticeable that the rest of the ground was not joining in with chants as frequently as they have done on other big matches in the past.

Still really enjoyed it. Fantastic experience.

In hindsight, I wish I was a real Ultra, keeping on going, regardless of the score and final result, oblivious, supporting the team until the final whistle. Must be wonderful.
You were right with your last post. Being enthralled with the game and reacting to it means you’re watching the game properly and experiencing what you should be experiencing, it also makes for a better more natural atmosphere.

It must surely be frustrating for ultras to wake up the next day having missed goal-after-goal game-after-game because they’ve been doing silly choreographed shite and not actually watching the football. Ultras spend more time looking at their “capo” than they do the game. They must get back to the pub (or whichever bridge they go under - they love going dancing under bridges for some reason - and filming themselves for Instagram) and ask each other “what actually happened in the game?”.

I just couldn’t be arsed with the effort of being an ultra. Looks like a lot of hard work, all that flag waving and jumping up and down.

I love getting behind the team but lets be honest, there’s some games where you just want a Bovril and a sit down.
