Etihad Atmosphere - 2021/22

It certainly wasn’t constant or particularly loud. United were shit and silent all game so I imagine we’d have been heard when singing. Just don’t think as a fan base we are overly loud. Doesn’t mean we care less or less passionate just my experiences.

It was from where I was sitting.

A few points:

1 - Yesterday was quite quiet, but it was also loud on occasions when we got going. It wasn't the worst atmosphere we've had and I'd say it was quite good given the weather, opposition, game itself, KO time etc.

2 - The atmosphere vs PSG was brilliant and got about 2 pages worth of comments. It's interesting that people come on here to moan when we're poor in the stands, but don't say much when we're great.

3 - Our repertoire of songs isn't brilliant. We need new ones, but we've struggled to get any decent ones going. We need something that the whole ground can join in with - so that means slower, repetitive, simple.

4 - The North Stand L1 should not be a family stand. It often feels like we (the south stand) are singing constantly and nothing comes back the other way. We're the 'singing section' so we're expected to lead, but the whole ground should be a singing section!

5 - The atmosphere has been much improved in general this season. I think rail seating has undoubtedly helped.

6 - The videos of Legia, Dortmund and Ajax fans are brilliant. I love flares and smoke bombs, but there's not a chance in hell I'd do one because I couldn't be doing with the ban/being arrested for it. You can't say 'We should do pyro' if you're not willing to do it and face the repercussions yourself.
The view from my armchair;
A bit quiet for first 20mins while the hammers made a racket. Once the team took control the crowd got going.
The Blues were much noisier after half time and had me singing along to 'had your day out ' and Pablo zabaletta. Overall it sounded great and made me wish I was there.
I also agree about the atmos in general being better this season.
NB I watch on channels that have proper sound and not the muted output sky broadcast.

Good win today.

Too many people patting themselves on the back about the atmosphere on Wednesday when the support for the lads was piss poor today.

Credit to the few Blues who tried to get behind the team.
I think people were right about Wednesday being a much better atmosphere than normal and right to commend it. I agree that it was piss poor yesterday. Not sure if it’s cos PSG was a more high profile affair, or whether we need the day trippers back

Then your blue tinted specs are admirable

No blue tinted specs here mate if I thought it was shit I'd say so. All I could hear almost all game was our fans singing and it sounded great

I've been at games where the singing and atmosphere where I was sounded great, come home and heard people slagging it off who weren't at the game. All about perception I guess.

I was at old trafford, and totally disagree with you. it was loud and consistent all game and much better than previous recent years at the swamp. However there was, as there always is at OT, a lot of first-timers in the away end. That’s a different issue for a different day though.

I genuinely had a bloke in front of me who was getting annoyed because I kept trying to start songs off at the swamp. Fuck knows how he got in there!
I thought it was quite good at the swamp. It was less raucous for the last half hour as we'd declared and the rags weren't allowed much of the ball. Had Foden's shot gone in rather than hit the post, or that penalty been awarded (and scored), then it would have been magnificent for the remainder of the game.

SS level 3 has quite a few reasons not to have a singing section up there and house the displays. Also it was mentioned about family stand moved to SS3 but a fuss kicked up about families next to away fans, also moving fans the club gets 100s of complaints.

Flags on sticks are not allowed in tier 3 of SS as security dont want them potentially being thrown on fans below from such a height.
Displays in general cant be seen from tier 3, also surfers arent practical due to the stand being so steep. Ok Milan do some great displays in tier 3, but they have 4,000 or so well based singers that will wave flags and get more involved.
As said previously, one of of the main aims for better atmosphere was safe stand, it was always obvious that rail seats would end up in SS1 first, we wanted singers in rail seats.
Access to and from SS3 is not good for flags and displays, where we are now in SS1 is easy from transporting banners etc.

I think the atmosphere gets better every season, ok it is by small amounts and we know what faults there is, but we are picking up. I tend to enjoy home games for a sing song more than away.

What would be good is if we all realised this is how it is and this is what we have got. Rather than looking at what we would like to have or hating a drum and wanting to walk out if a drum came in, lets just treat the lower SS1 like the European away fans do and sing as though we are proud to be a blue.

Game Vs PSG was mental, some good up for it fans in 114 / 115 / 116 where is could see game from, this is what gets a good atmosphere.

You raise a number of good points here and it shows how difficult it must be for the club to change anything as there will always be complaints and the interests or views of outside agencies to consider. Even this thread shows fans have differing opinions as to what should or shouldn't be done. PSG atmosphere was good all round the ground and when you have that, where everyone gets involved I am sure it must lift the team and we all go away happy.

Too right, drum banging cunts can't fuck right off, as well as those twats with megaphones 'leading' the home end with organised chants. The moment that arrives at the Etihad I'm off.

The crowd responds to what is on the pitch, especially dodgy reffing, or snide tackles by the opposition, or even going one down. Today was cold and we dominated, but there was little passion on the pitch and little in the stands.

People will get involved when they want to, forcing them will not get any good result.
Ultimately it’s awful Dave, it’s not just a problem at ours it’s all over.I’m hoping the standing areas will generate a bit of an atmosphere

Although I want standing back at football, I don’t think this will make any difference personally in its current format. The main difference with modern stadiums and traditional terracing is you are allocated a seat/space. A group can’t just decide to go and stand together, have a drink and a laugh etc. The likelihood is that would be sat in different areas. Unless they make it un allocated standing I can’t see how it will make a difference unfortunately.

depends how they implement it. If, for example family stand level 1 was made into a safe standing/ singing area that would make a huge difference.

we’d finally have a proper home end and have two singing sections in the ground

I think it has made a bit of a difference already (hard to tell based on a small number of games, but home games have definitely been better so far this season). I've pitched unallocated seating to the club - it seems like security won't allow it.

In all honesty though, in 115, most people just bunch in with their mates anyway.

When they take the seats out after January think more will do that with the extra space even PSG alone was loads in the South stand definitely more than the allocation Especially in 114/115

Still find it crazy we kick away from our most vocal support in the second half and let the away team kick toward there fans in the second half! Shooting toward the south stand in the second half would make a big difference in my opinion

How so?

We haven't done too badly over the last ten years kicking the other way!!!!!!
