Sorry to put a dampener on these ideas but I think people are losing their minds here.
The idea that there will be a stampede of 8000 singers relocating to the 3rd tier in the new stand which will make the Etihad as load as La Bombinera is fantasy.
People on here have used every excuse imaginable on why the atmosphere is crap. The answer is simple - the majority of our support sit in silence. If they didn’t there would be no need for any campaigns to relocate people.
Good luck with any campaigns but it won’t make a difference as the new stand will be a mixture of tourists new fans and a smaller number of relocations no matter what they try to do.
We don’t need 8000 singers. Nobody has ever posted that. What we currently have is 100’s/1000’s of singers spread over 109, 110, 111, (split by the away fans) 114, 115, 116, stretching into 117, fans in SL3, and other singers spread far and wide across each stand who want to sing but don’t sing because nobody around them joins in singing with them. What the club needs to do is to get all those singers and other fans who want to sing together in 2, 3 or 4 blocks in the expanded NS.
Going back to United and their singing section. Apparently it holds 2000 United fans. If that number of singers was equated to SSL1 that would be blocks 114, 115, 116 and 117, give or take. Imagine having those 4 blocks and 2000 *singers* in SSL1. That would be immense.
You‘re right about the possible mixture of fans in a future expanded NS. But that will only happen if the club doesn’t create a proper singing section when the NS is expanded .
The other 1894 lads know much more about this than I do, but I know the club and the dedicated City team who work on the displays and improving the atmosphere, and work with 1894, are very keen on improving the atmosphere and the matchday displays at the Etihad. They’re a great bunch of lads and take their jobs very seriously.
The only concern I have is whether the directors at the very top sign off and implement the ideas that are needed to really improve the Etihad atmosphere when the NS is expanded, or will they put revenue first and foremost? Over to you Khaldoon and Soriano!
