Etihad Atmosphere - 2022/23

I take on board the point that acoustics are best served by singers sitting at the back of the upper stand but I don’t think it’s such an easy sell. You’re so detached from the action up there that any singers relocating would be putting the best interests of the club before themselves. Fairplay to them if they do

Sorry to put a dampener on these ideas but I think people are losing their minds here.

The idea that there will be a stampede of 8000 singers relocating to the 3rd tier in the new stand which will make the Etihad as load as La Bombinera is fantasy.

People on here have used every excuse imaginable on why the atmosphere is crap. The answer is simple - the majority of our support sit in silence. If they didn’t there would be no need for any campaigns to relocate people.

Good luck with any campaigns but it won’t make a difference as the new stand will be a mixture of tourists new fans and a smaller number of relocations no matter what they try to do.

We don’t need 8000 singers. Nobody has ever posted that. What we currently have is 100’s/1000’s of singers spread over 109, 110, 111, (split by the away fans) 114, 115, 116, stretching into 117, fans in SL3, and other singers spread far and wide across each stand who want to sing but don’t sing because nobody around them joins in singing with them. What the club needs to do is to get all those singers and other fans who want to sing together in 2, 3 or 4 blocks in the expanded NS.

Going back to United and their singing section. Apparently it holds 2000 United fans. If that number of singers was equated to SSL1 that would be blocks 114, 115, 116 and 117, give or take. Imagine having those 4 blocks and 2000 *singers* in SSL1. That would be immense.

You‘re right about the possible mixture of fans in a future expanded NS. But that will only happen if the club doesn’t create a proper singing section when the NS is expanded .

The other 1894 lads know much more about this than I do, but I know the club and the dedicated City team who work on the displays and improving the atmosphere, and work with 1894, are very keen on improving the atmosphere and the matchday displays at the Etihad. They’re a great bunch of lads and take their jobs very seriously.

The only concern I have is whether the directors at the very top sign off and implement the ideas that are needed to really improve the Etihad atmosphere when the NS is expanded, or will they put revenue first and foremost? Over to you Khaldoon and Soriano!

The atmosphere wasn't good after moving but was decent in the Teens of SS1.

Then the club invented a singing section to fix the problem which diluted things further with a lot of fans moving to the empty 111 and making the atmosphere a lot worse. SS3 with the cheap tickets killed it further, as no fans can be heard up there and it is very far from the pitch.

Any new section will dilute things further, some will move, but most will stay unless it is really cheap. If it was cheap (and not an upper tier) most fans would relocate for financial reasons, not for a sing song.

The standing section is limited, and the die has been case, there is unlikely to be any more any time soon. Just let it develop organically without club and display interventions which don't help.

So how come United and their fans have managed to do it? Why can they do it and we can’t?

There won’t be any organic development unless there are changes to the Etihad and the club intervenes to improve the atmosphere. Adding 8000 extra seats to the NS and filling them with additional fans isn’t going to improve the atmosphere bar increasing the Etihad capacity, increasing revenue, etc. One of many reasons why the the NS is being expanded is to improve the atmosphere with a new and proper dedicated singing section. No it isn’t on top of the list, but it’s on the list.

Had the potential to be good when that first song spread across the south stand but then that group behind the goal spent the rest of the half going clap clap clap follow follow clap clap empty fucking Edin Dzeko clap clap clap and killed it stone dead.

we had to relocate tonight from ss3 cos of chelsea fans.
we went into 116.
i thought the atmosphere was pretty damn good.
asked a few people around us,if its always like this and they said yes.
like others have said then,it just literally doesn't travel, especially to us lot in ss3.
