Biggest contributor to a good atmosphere is all that stuff. We focus too much on song choice here. Songs are only a tiny fraction of what makes a decent 'atmosphere'.
Although I agree with the logic of what Didsbury Dave says, there are no excuses for blues in the other three stands who sit on their hands and go silent. You can boo, cheer, whistle, shout, wave a scarf, bring a flag, clap your hands, stand up, go mad when we score etc...
The best atmosphere we've had at the Etihad was against Liverpool in 2019 and we barely sang anything.
Just put your phone down and make a racket!
Same against United in 2012. Not much was sung, when it was it was belted out (‘We’re not really here’ just after Kompany’s header as the teams were walking off for half time was arguably the loudest chant ever heard at the Etihad) but other than that - like the Liverpool game you mention - there wasn’t much in the way of singing but the atmosphere was electric.
