I don't want to come across "all Laurence Lewellyn-Bowen", but that would look so much better if it was rendered and painted. As you say a total fucking eyesore.

It's so typical of British investment vs more ambitious Middle East or Asian investment, where they are prepared to pump vast amounts of money in to reap rewards over the long term, vs our short term "how cheap can we get away with" mentality.

Look at somewhere like Hong Kong airport for example (there's countless examples and I choose this at random), vast, glass, stainless steel, marble, moving walkways, efficient, clean.

vs

Heathrow. Small, lino floor tiles, carpet tiles (stained), polystyrene ceiling tiles (missing), concrete, paint, broken moving walkways, queues, dirty. Cheap.

The red bricks above are just the same, crap, but cheap. Anywhere else in the modern world it would have been red glass with stainless steel and lights and stuff. Here in the UK, a poxy pile of bricks. Utter shite.
Not been to terminal 5, or 4 for that matter? Nice, big, spacious modern construction, it's the same mentality that built the tube, as great an achievement it was, it left nowhere else to go, only now are they giving it the overhaul, and new trains of the present, let alone what the future demands

Because the roof has to be taken off using cranes pitch side - it will take about 5 weeks minimum and would destroy the pitch. Laing offered City a £1 million saving on the tender if they took the roof off the South Stand during the last close season but City said no. This (the taking of the roof off) is the tightest element of the construction programme next close season, due to interface with pitch works needed to make front 3 rows site lines work better. The pitch height has actually gone up 80mm since we moved in the stadium.
I thought I felt closer than before

How did United take of the old east and west stand roofs mid season if it wasn't by using cranes from pitch side? The new roofs were complete before the old ones came off very similar to what we are doing and the stands were partially open by around the Feb I think.
Just thought it'd be great if the south stand upper tier was partially open by the end of the season and we could get a 50k+ crowd this season

Sniff Sniff.......he surely has to be one!

What are the grey seats ?

They are sky blue. They have installed them prior to the Good Sheik investing in The Swamp, just as soon as the Bernabeu has been dragged into the 21st century. The interest alone, and MANUre know about interest, will pay for a couple of world class centre forwards to come through the CFA!

Support must be down from 659M in the lead up to a rag game there's usually shed loads trying it on.

Anything with that badge on it is going to be an eyesore no matter whether its rendered or not....

The reason they have built up the dugouts so high, is because they've relaid the pitch that many times over the years because its been a "swamp", if the dugouts were actually pitchside, you wouldn't be able to see the game.

(PS - if you quote the other posts, please remove that f**king eyesore from bluemoom first, once was more than enough.)

Bit of an update - a huge landscaping contract to redo the whole of the stadium perimeter is currently being designed. Be very interesting to see the long term location of city square.

Any sort of time scale on this?

Re: Etihad Campus, Stadium Development and Collar Site (cont

Re. The 80mm, thought I read somewhere that the desso needed a different base layer thickness to the original pitch, something to do with the root structure. Maybe that's bollox and it needed to be deeper to stop the desso needles hitting the water or drainage pipes under the pitch.

Do the first team train full time now at the new training ground or are they still using Carrington?

I don't think they are bothering at the moment.

Do the first team train at all now?

Well they certainly don't practice corners, set pieces, dribbling. Hart hasn't practiced his distribution in 3-4 years and Silva isn't practicing shooting...

There's a potentially serious point here. Our recent slump in form can be pretty much pinpointed to the time we moved the location of the squad's training. Footballers are notoriously creatures of habit so this could go some way to explain our current torpid offerings.

Which was why I aired my surprise at the move. The youth teams should be using the new facility until the end of the season to highlight any snags. Once it has been fully tested by the kids, then it is time for the first team to move in the summer. I cannot believe we have left Carrington for a half finished facility midway through the season. I can only presume it was to apply pressure to BAM as they are late but you surely don't jeopardise the season because of it.

Good point but i'm only asking as i'v got Nephews and Nieces over on Friday and they want players autographs, do I go to Carrington which is down the road from me, or is it the Etihad Campus?
