One of my earliest memories getting a bollocking off my dad for sticking my hand in the wolves cage at Belle Vue Zoo. Some things never change!

Whats incredible about that Belle Vue picture is that virtually every distinguishable building is no longer there apart from the row on Hyde Road and the one behind it on the nearside of Gorton Park (they now stand opposite Showcase cinema).
Even Kirkmanhulme Lane which runs up the right hand side of the picture no longer goes straight across Hyde Road where they meet the lake

The most underfed animals in Manchester, I know its not big and clever, but they were quite partial to cig dimps.

I remember going when I was a kid, from my recollection it was "bustling" in a desolate post apocalyptic sense.
