Interesting. City getting involved.

Business Desk North West.

Northern business leaders have called on Prime Minister Boris Johnson to kick-start the devolution process to reinvigorate the Northern Powerhouse. One hundred business leaders, from organisations such as property giant Bruntowood, Associated British Ports, Manchester City FC and Siemens, signed the 'Devo 100' letter. They want powers to transfer from Whitehall to elected mayors and local leaders which, they say, will energise the economic vision of the Northern Powerhouse which was promoted by former Chancellor George Osborne. ...

This is a big blow. I wonder if poor transport infrastructure was one of their considerations (as well as costs) for pulling out. It seems bizarre to build more sports facilities around All Saints in a sort of rival to the sports campus. This will not help with the arena proposals either.
Sounds like the plan is to go ahead and find a new partner, not sure how easy that'll be but they sound fairly confident.

Exactly this. The number of unconditional offers is reportedly at about 38% this year in an attempt to get numbers booked onto courses as early as possible before the student can change their mind and my daughter's accommodation cost was actually reduced back in April so it looks like demand has taken a real hit.

UoM has a big sports centre in Fallowfield and a smaller centre close to town on Oxford Rd, but I've never heard of any UoM students doing sports science or physiotherapy, that's an MMU thing. MMU is the old Poly which does the more vocational training, whilst UoM is more academic. MMU is the natural fit for sport. If MMU have pulled out, it feels unlikely that anyone will step in.
