Much needed. The place is well outdated!
That’s what it is PR. I highly doubt this will happen - they will need balls to invest that kind of money and go head to head with a competitor with far deeper pockets than them. For a business that has publicly stated there’s insufficient capacity for two arenas - if the Etihad one goes ahead what exactly is the logic from their perspective to invest so much money?

Seems like fantasy to me in order to court favour ahead of the new arena.
It’ll end up with a minor renovation rather than a full on overhaul and upgrade like in those “plans”.
Admittedly it seems a bit vague on the details, but I feel like its a better option personally. Presumably it would have to be shut for a significant period of time to make those alterations too.
The arena at the Etihad should really be targeting the gap between Manchesters current offerings anyway in my opinion, and aim for somewhere between 8k-12k. Suitable for Basketball and Ice Hockey etc to make sure it is utilised more often. Utilisation and footfall is what will justify improvements to public transport and encourage businesses (bars, restaurants, retailers) to open at the Etihad.
