Etihad Campus, Stadium and Collar Site Development Thread

I'm not advocating stopping selling seasoncards. I'm advocating managing them differently so rather than a presumption that a seasoncard holder is going to turn up, they have to say they're going to turn up. If they confirm they're not, or don't conform they are, within 3 weeks of a game then their ticket is made available to Matchday members. That way people can pick and choose but the club know what seats are available well enough in advance to be able to have a chance of selling them.

I'd also find a way of rewarding those who do turn up, so the more you attend, the less your ticket costs pro-rata compared to someone who only turns up to fewer games.
Over complicating it and needlessly hassling the majority of seasoncard holders that attend every game. Forcing seasoncard holders to confirm they are attending every game is not the answer.

Far easier solution is that telling those that don’t plan on attending that they have to list their ticket for resale. If they don’t list for resale / attend a third of the games they lose the right to renew. As long as it’s listed for resale within suitable time then it wouldn’t be classed as non attend.

Surely the responsibility has to be on those that don’t attend than those that do.

Why do you think we often have thousands of empty seats? Why do you think the club is saying they'll not automatically renew tickets that don't attend x number of games?

People don't put their tickets on the exchange, that's the problem. I've seen the numbers and they're pretty bad. Absolutely shocking for some games and that is seasoncard holders not turning up and not listing their tickets. Kids generally can't make midweek games in term-time. Why should they not have seasoncards?

If you don't want empty seats then you have to do something a bit more innovative or radical. Why should someone who lives down south, or in Scotland, be barred from buying a seasoncard just because they can't make midweek games? They want to sit with family, friends or the seats they've sat in for 20 years, with people they may have even sat with at Maine Road.

Typical 'I'm alright Jack attitude'.
I think the issue is the "can't be arsed to make them available" club needs to make them available immediately and up to kick off. This is where the machine at the ground that can only be used with a membership card is needed. That way the club knows who's sitting where, the card can automatically be updated and your receipt allows you to show it to the "helper" should it not work correctly.

Liverpool where considering making a seat available at a discount if the seasoncard/ticket holder hadn't entered the stadium by kick off... Now that would be an interesting conversation when you couldn't get in the ground.

Having to confirm you’re attending within 3 weeks of a game? Can you imagine the chaos that would cause? Far too complicated and would cause murders.

Don't suppose it bothers City if there's empty seats if they've been paid for. All most City fans bother about is being in their own seat on match days.

Totally Agree. We have had a system which has worked for as long as i remember, if the club are bothered about empty seats then they need to look at ticket prices. Reduce prices and they will soon fill the stadium, if this reduces revenue then increase the capacity, which is what this thread is about, also all supporters should be involved with any changes to ticketing not just small groups, these discussions should go out to all supporters as the majority are totally unaware of what is going on behind the scenes.

If people think that empty seats caused by non-shows by season ticket holders is a problem, there is a simple remedy. That is to increase season ticket prices and reduce walk-up prices.

No shows by season ticket holders is not a new problem. I can recall back in the 1970s, when seats were first installed in the North Stand, my family bought a block of five tickets (at £15 per book?). We rarely filled all five seats, usually three. It didn’t matter then as the stadium capacity was 53,000 plus, and the typical attendance was 25,000 to 35,000.

Now it does have an impact with (most) seats being sold. Does it matter that much to change the whole pricing structure? I don’t think so?
