Etihad Campus, Stadium and Collar Site Development Thread

Liverpool is a big city, but is in no way a major one. For example, the Globalization and World Cities Research Network ranks it as a ‘Sufficiency’ city (the lowest classification in the rankings) placing it alongside Southampton, Newcastle and Cardiff, which is about right.

FWIW, Manchester is a Beta- alongside Edinburgh and places like Geneva and Osaka and full 5 ‘divisions’ above Liverpool.

EDIT: Seeing as this got a few likes, here are the UK city rankings.

Liverpool's motto should be: The Zhuhai of England.

Never tried Liverpool's Echo M&S Bank Arena or the Exhibition Centre. Did see an empty Cavern and the nearby Spike Island. For all its worth, Liverpool doesn't seem anywhere near MCR in terms of music venues. It did have Eric's, the Casbah, Bandwagon, Aintree Institute, Iron Door, Korova, Maguire's, and Lathom. The Olympia, Empire, O2 Academy, Philharmonic, Zanzibar, and Royal Court are as drab and glum as their surrounding city. The Invisible Wind Factor is a rip-off Factory. The city just doesn't appeal and it is kind of sad. London is huge and flooded by venues, whereas a belt of Northern venues could supply a decent competition to that.

Manchester's range of major and medium entertainment venues is diverse, The G-Mex (Central), O.T. Cricket Ground, and the Etihad add to the cross city capacity. Had some ace nights at them all. Don't recall many going to O.T. Swamp for Gigs, etc. Even the O2 Waerehouse is too close for comfort.

I'm not a fan of Busking KDB, but his recent concert at the Etihad looked like the circus had come to town. I'm glad people come to MCR spending their pennies and then watch the whole bloody thing through a camera lens.'

This new Coop Live adds something to our city and it is grand. Looking forward to the refurbished New Century Hall too. Manchester is a dynamic city. We didn't get the casinos but we did enhance our culture.

What land around the stadium is left?

Currently City get income from concerts etc at the Etihad. Will those continue when the arena is open? We will get no direct income from the arena as the land belongs jointly to CFG and M/Cr council.

There will still be concerts at the Etihad as it holds a vastly bigger crowd.
