Etihad Campus, Stadium and Collar Site Development Thread

I was reading some comments recently about Spurs fans being disappointed with the atmosphere of their new place. Maybe a single tier isn’t the be all and end all we thought it was?

At least copying the South Stand means we can keep the family stand in tier 2 with no major disruption which means no further disruption from those who would be moved for a new family stand.

They’ve also seemingly been moving away from the idea of tier one being officially part of the family stand so I wouldn’t be surprised if that was evolved into a further safe standing area.

Tier 3 - New cheaper seats
Tier 2 - Family Stand
Tier 1 - Safe Standing

A single tier would be amazing given time. I'm sure Spurs have similar issues where the fans that want to sing are spread all over the ground. West Ham also had their teething issues when they moved. Since their Europa run they seem to be more satisfied with things at the ground now. I'm sure Everton will also take time to create an atmosphere like the one at Goodison.

Initially you have the basic facts that the new stand will be aimed at generating revenue and a single tier doesn't lend itself to mixed pricing. The club will want to have areas that are cheap and others they can charge a bit more for which means three tiers would be advantageous. The South Stand works as well so why change it and ramp up construction costs when they can copy that pattern and create symmetry to the ground? Would the singing fans move to the NS when the away fans are the other side of the ground? Plenty of home support features a home end with away fans tucked to the side. The Kop is the other end to the away fans. The Stretford End is the other side of the ground (ignoring the corner positioning of the away end). It could work. You'd still have a rowdy bunch next to the away fans anyway so it should improve things.

The main issue at City is that the noise isn't retained within the ground very well. The 3rd tier of the SS is much better, but songs are usually started in the 1st tier and it's all a bit disjointed. If you had a single tier with a roof sending noise around the ground it would be epic.

The latest info is that the new stand is going to be 3 tiers like the South Stand. I’m not just speculating based on Spurs atmosphere. There’s a post a page or two back about it which is worth looking at.

No surprise about that given the angles of the new roof versus the original. Doing similar with the North Stand will help and (eventually) the East & West Stands. The original roof may have been a clever engineering design but it was/is crap for atmosphere.

Good point Spurs brought special engineers to get the sound sorted in the stadium. I still think the ULTRA need to have there own section, so joining the Manchester City Ultra you would all be in the same part of the ground
