Etihad Campus, Stadium and Collar Site Development Thread

Does anyone know what’s happening to the canal towpath by the stadium? I use the Ashton canal to cycle to work and it’s a bit of a bastard now they’ve boarded it up. It’s blocked off from just past the Etihad into new Islington.

Anything to do with the arena construction?
Brunswick Mill which backs onto the canal is unsafe so they closed the towpath off whilst they carry out work to make it safe

There's another review on Friday.

Google 'Canal River Trust' and search for stoppages (I can't post the link from my phone).

Coming up to 20 years since the external works were done at City and no money spent since really. It looks so shabby. Cost £10m the package with Jim Ennis at the time. Could and should have been done while Covid has been ongoing.

I was down at the ground for my vaccine a couple of weeks back. The floor around City square and the club shop looks terrible, I wonder if they will resurface all that when the arena gets finished.

Ah, found it. Much appreciated.

Like all listing building restorations then. I expect to be commuting by warp engine hoverbike to my office on the moon by the time it reopens.

It does seem strange unless the whole area is going to be redeveloped, perhaps including a new stand and some sort of link-up with the new arena. Infrastructure improvements are exempt from FFP so it makes more sense to invest. City do own the area around City Square and the arena site so they have control of what happens there don't they?

Can see new double height advertising boards and new fence line compared to the original too from the look of that

Safe Standing being installed on South Stand Level 1, and on the corner of East Stand Level 1.

The home of the Premier League Champions is undergoing a revamp with the excavation of the Etihad Stadium pitch, which started the day after our win over Everton.

The new pitch will be completed by late June, giving seven weeks to establish.

Works were originally planned for summer 2020 but were delayed due to the COVID-19 pandemic and uncertainty around when the 2020/21 season would restart.

This is the first full rebuild of the pitch since 2003 when City moved to the Etihad, although a partial rebuild took place in 2010. The project is the biggest single pitch project in the Club's history.

Principle contractors are John Mallinsons from Ormskirk, who did the original build in 2003 (as well as the pitches at the City Football Academy), working with Irrigation Control and SEL Environmental and independently monitored during the pitch build by PSD Labosport - all three are north-west based.

The new build will include an air vacuum system for the first time which can pull moisture out of the pitch against the force of gravity, meaning the Etihad Stadium pitch will be one of just a handful to have this type of system in the UK.

It also has the ability to retain and recycle over 200,000 litres of rain and pitch irrigation water - a first in the UK for this type of pitch drainage system.

Once completed, the pitch will be reinforced with SIS Grass for the first time, and installed by SIS Pitches - another north west based company.

Excavation saw the pitch level dropped by almost half a metre, removing around 6,000 tonnes of rootzone, sand, gravel and clay. This will be fully replaced and the new pitch will sit at exactly the same level as the previous one.

The new pitch will measure 105 x 68 metres white line to white line, as it has since 2003. This is a standard requirement for the Premier League, as well as UEFA and FIFA tournaments.

This picture shows how far away the nearest seats and City fans in East Stand Level 1 will be from the pitch.

Another example of how the Etihads once intimidating stadium layout and atomosphere is constantly being diluted in the quest to increase revenues.

Ended up in that seat in the bottom left corner of the pic for the Everton game, couldn't believe how far they had moved the front row of the East stand back just to get the new pitch side advertising in
