Etihad Campus, Stadium and Collar Site Development Thread

City Square is absolutely brilliant which is why it’s absolutely packed every single game and why other clubs are trying to duplicate it. It doesn’t matter if some old fart or alchy doesn’t like it.

It's only busy because the tram service is so shite.

How many would drink outside in sub zero rain and wind if they could get straight
to town into a pub.?

Three lads early 20’s with black Bournemouth shirts on. Went in the Townley on Saturday. No issues by City fans. But the bouncers asked them to leave as they managed to get inside to the bar.

I think they meant near the ground and set up for away fans only. When I go to away matches there's usually a bar nearby catering for away fans. Not the case by us.

Yep. It’s pretty shocking the lack of pubs, bars, anything near the ground. The locals around Beswick must be bored…

Pretty standard at most grounds for away fans. To be fair to the bouncers they're the ones who have to sort it out when it does go pear shaped

No it's busy because a lot of us like it. Give me City Square over what we had in the 80s and 90s any day.If you want to sit in a pub first then sit in a pub. It's a 20 minute walk to town. The Etihad isn't the back of beyond. The trams are only shite getting away, getting to the ground they are fine.

I thought the video was good. They are very honest. They don't let petty football banter take over.

I actually agree with a lot of the negative stuff they said. I'm not a fan of City Square. The idea is good, but I don't enjoy being deafened - I'd rather drink a couple of cans walking up.

A perfect City square for me would be quiet background music (so you can talk), and highlights of old games (or live games) on the big screen. Keep all the random kiddy stuff like five a side. For games like Bournemouth where we know there won't be any trouble, let them drink there.

There is nothing for away fans at Bournemouth. In any event the last place to get a decent pint is usually in any pub designated for away fans. Very few pubs anywhere (if any) allow away fans in large groups with shirts on.

Had to Google The Grove.

Appears to be wrong side of the ground if they have walked from the City centre, pity as it looks better than the 3 remaining Pubs I can think off.
Away fans usually drink in town like most City fans. There are loads of great places and the City fans are (mostly) very welcoming to away fans. Ancoats (pricy though it is) is even closer to the ground. They needed to do some research. Anyway next year they will be able to drink in the new arena bars which will be open on football matchdays with space for 3000 fans.

City be a great away day if you’re getting the train in.

If you are driving or on a coach be a bag of shit nowhere to have a drink.

All you could do really is stop beforehand.

Are we gonna draw them in the cup?

Thought there was an irony in a couple of blokes from Bournemouth- yep that place on the South Coast - with an average age of 85 and a social scene to rival Eastbourne turning their noses up at Manchester…. They were even a bit haughty about the Etihad campus - anyone would think Bournemouth had a Premier League stadium and Beer Halls to rival Bavaria.

Where does this “20 minute walk to Town” come from? When you’re with a group of mates on the piss it’s easily a 40 minute walk to most places in Town. Even Google Maps has it as a 32 minute walk to Piccadilly Station and that’s one of the closest bits of Town to the Etihad.
