Etihad Campus, Stadium and Collar Site Development Thread

Just been thinking about all the posts I’ve read on this thread and it’s clear that the majority would love a kop like end for the noisemakers. And though I agree I look at what our owners want and I’ve come to the conclusion that they don’t want a second rate stadium and in my opinion want the best stadium in the world. If you think about within the small collection of ultra billionaires there are bragging rights to who has the biggest and best floating gin palaces and has such that also means us.
My dream would be having a one-tier’d giant standing Kippax along the side of the pitch where the East Stand is, as that would be in full view of the cameras all the time and would bring back some proper City culture and it would be a lot more individual and unique compared to what the rest of Europe has (where possible, never copy, always be original, separate yourself from others and innovate your own style and culture and that’s how you become more iconic).

None of this behind the goal nonsense! But if all we can do is behind the goal, that will be better than we have now.

It would take some proper major work to achieve the best stadium in the world where we are now. Newer builds are decades ahead of us in terms of their aesthetics. But with engineering and architecture, anything is possible.

Great pics

It’s difficult to envisage how the roof will look when the stadium is finished.
You tend to look at how the N & S stands will blend in to the E & W.
However, once the S is complete the new roof would be designed around the N & S stands. So probably much higher than it is now. Maybe glazing at the back above the seats like a stand at WHL

Ahh man a Kippax style stand would be absolutely immense wouldn't it. The owners have always talked about our history and it wouldn't surprise me if they tried to acknowledge it somehow...but hospitality is much better served along the side for maximum revenue. Maybe we could let them have a bit?! They need to get the corners sorted to replicate the Gene Kelly, let the weather get to the pitch and soak a few too!

I've seen this viewpoint previously and I just don't get it. The stadium stands out as it is and once the other 3 stands are extended and the roof replaced it's going to look fantastic. That's without considering any exterior wrap put in place.

I just wondered if anyone else has been contacted by the club regarding moving from the family stand when there kids are no longer juniors? For me it was 4 seasons ago saying that I would have to move out of the family stand 2nd tier as my lad was no longer a junior, he would be 21.They explained there intention was to put all juniors and families into the 2nd tier of the family stand eventually.

By family stand I guess you mean the North stand? I think plenty have had that previously but from memory they no longer bother. Perhaps due to the plans to expand, they'll sort everyone one out in one go when it's finished.

Bernabeu is going to look immense so I think you are right. Once it is all done it will look amazing. Not going to be a Maine Road bolt on stands job.

Yes the North stand

Off topic.

In town today doing my city centre monthly construction roundup. (won't get around the whole of the city centre) Not done one for months. Unbelievable amount of construction going on. I'll post the pictures over the next 2 days on SSC-MCR, if anyone is interested?

Went on the Castlefield Viaduct. It's pretty decent. The views across the city centre are good. Definitely needs to be extended to the full length of the Viaduct. It's a little short atm. There are plans to do that.

Maybe we could have a thread in off topic for general Manchester construction as well?

Was on the stadium tour today and they didn't let us go pitch side due to an 'emergency'. Apparently something to do with the roof girders. I also noticed some white covering on some seats in CBL1 and something hanging down from the roof but I couldn't really see what it was. When they were showing us the radio boxes I even heard some drilling. There was lots of builders walking around as well.

I noticed a lot last season how much rain was leaking through the roof all around the older roof structure around the stadium.

Is it falling apart?

I’m sure I read on this thread someone say that it was originally made very cheaply and with a short shelf life.
