Etihad Campus, Stadium and Collar Site Development Thread

I know its the fucking Eurovison song contest but it's such a shame the new arena wasn't ready in time for Manchester to bid for it.

Would have been a Europe wide bit of publicity for the arena as I'm sure with seats meaning £££ we'd have got the nod.

Along with the proposed hotel and 3000 capacity plaza. That would have sealed the win. 4 years too late.

TBF, Liverpool must have run a very good pitch, not only to beat the other cities, but to beat Glasgow as well. The Liverpool Waterfront is a great setting. Having Manchester Airport on Liverpool's doorstep also helped their bid. Not to mention the 1000's of additional hotel rooms in Manchester that will be booked up. Manchester will benefit from Liverpool getting the Eurovision Song contest.

With the price of Hotels in Liverpool for Eurovision I reckon Manchester Hotels will be booked solid and the City centre buzzin. It was a great win for Liverpool and the region in general.

Manchester Airport has finally got it’s act together.

Celebrity spin doctor turned podcaster Alastair Campbell praised Manchester Airport on his The Rest is Politics podcast recently, claiming he sailed through security and customs in 15 minutes.

The Airport is claiming that wasn’t just a one off and that over the Easter weekend 99% of passengers got through security in 15 minutes or less.

New queue monitoring technology and the deployment of over 2000 new members of staff have rapidly improved performance from the grim days of last spring and summer when delays, queues out of the buildings and staff shortages caused chaos, as TheBusinessDesk.com reported at the time, including when the managing director Karen Smart lost her job.

Yeah, ive been thru twice in the last month. Once at 5am for a 7.10am flight (no luggage). Once at 8am for an 11am flight (golf clubs). Had no issue on either occasion. Thru security in 15 mins max, very short wait!!

Having spent 2+ hours to get thru same time last year, it was a much nicer experience all round.

From the club email:

Dear all,

Today we are announcing that a planning application has been submitted to Manchester City Council for the development of a best-in-class fan experience and year-round entertainment and leisure destination at the Etihad Stadium.
This follows the conclusion of the consultation held between Tuesday 28th February and 26th March, where you were invited to share your feedback on concepts and designs.

Having reviewed all of the feedback submitted via the consultation questionnaire, we are delighted to confirm that our fans were in favour of the concepts and proposals presented.

Proposals include several connected all-weather facilities, fully integrated into the stadium, centred around an expanded North Stand with one larger, single upper tier above the existing lower tier, increasing capacity to over 60,000. Above the upper tier, a sky bar with views overlooking the pitch has been introduced, together with a stadium roof walk experience.
In line with our initial designs, a covered City Square fan zone, with capacity for 3,000 people and a wide variety of food and drink outlets, a new club shop, museum and a 400-bed hotel are also proposed.
Modest workspace for use by start-up and medium-sized organisations looking to co-locate and collaborate with the Club, City Football Group and Etihad Campus partners also features in the planning submission.

Viewed from Joe Mercer Way, the hotel and food and drink outlets are situated on the left flank of the development with all other facilities contained within the right flank. LED screens which are approximately four stories in height will also feature at the end of each flank.

Our proposals represent over £300m investment into East Manchester through a major construction project that would take up to three years to complete, offering 2,600 jobs prioritised for people from Greater Manchester.

Commenting on the submission of a planning application, Danny Wilson, Managing Director – Manchester City Operations, said:

“Over several months we have been developing concepts and designs for a best-in-class fan experience and year-round entertainment and leisure destination at the Etihad Stadium and are delighted to have now submitted a planning application to Manchester City Council.

“I’d like to take this opportunity to thank our fans and the local community for their participation in our recent consultation, not only for completing the questionnaire but sharing their detailed comments and feedback with us, all of which has been carefully reviewed and considered.

“As with all Club developments, ensuring our local community benefit is a key priority and we believe these proposals will deliver long-term economic and social opportunities, building on the regeneration work delivered in East Manchester by City Football Group since 2008.”

We will contact you again with further information regarding the proposed development should the planning application receive approval.

Thank you for your continued support.

Kind regards,
Manchester City

This looks good, this would have looked good underneath the South Stand, instead of what they did

It does look nice but it’s hard to knock the south stand bar. It was desperately needed and it’s a massive improvement IMO.
