Re: Etihad Campus & potential new stadium

Despite piccies I posted on the original thread suggesting otherwise, the roof cannot be remade in any way to accommodate a third tier on the ends - its profile is as a segment out of a toroidal shape which if nothing else allows the water run off from ANYWHERE on the roof to the two big water spouts

This diagram is from the Arup Design Description PDF Document out on t'internet

Roof has to come off, in part, or completely, for any upwards expansion of any significant size

Re: Etihad Campus & potential new stadium

Steve, great info ;) although I don't see how the toroid would be compromised by changing the pitch of the roof at the ends to accommodate a third tier. The pitch angle could still be such that drainage to the rear would be maintained and there would then be space (albeit maybe not the capacity increase desired) for a medium sized third tier. The leading edge of the roof would still be held in place by the support ring although admittedly loading on the ring would increase due to the reduced pitch angle. New support towers would obviously need to be constructed as well.

I hope the solution they choose is a total revamp of the stadium enabling mcfc to do something totally revolutionary. I'm sure, given how quickly the season tickets sold out, we won't have to wait long for an announcement.

People have been saying "I'm sure we won't have to wait long for an announcement about a stadium upgrade" for three years now and we've heard precisely nothing. Why should we not have to wait a while longer? Maybe the board aren't convinced yet that we would actually fill a much larger ground and are waiting for our UK-based support to grow?

On the other hand, has anybody considered that the board may not want two simultaneous construction sites on opposite sides of the road and don't want to start announcing anything until the academy has actually started operations?

Patience is a virtue and nobody will be disappointed in what will be there in 3 -4 years.

What everyone will see in time fits in perfectly with our owners vision to be the best in The World

Re: Etihad Campus & potential new stadium

GX what you reckon will be first, leisure attraction or stadium expansion?

Or might they go hand in hand?

This. Would be difficult to imagine one being done without the other. Especially given there will be some level of integration between the two.

and THAT is something I hadn't thought about till now. Imagine an enclosed link bridge (like the airport link between T1/T2) that sits above the public space behind the East Stand linking whats on the Collar Site to the second or third tier concourse - a new premium entrance on match days and an entrance for a stadium tour or similar linked into the leisure attraction

Re: Etihad Campus & potential new stadium

I'd love to think so but with work behind south north and east stand, access would probably be an issue on matchday haha

-- Thu Jul 19, 2012 2:29 pm --

I'd love to think so but with work behind south north and east stand, access would probably be an issue on matchday haha

Re: Etihad Campus & potential new stadium

This thread seems to have come to the conclusion that

1) The academy site will be built and finished including our landmark bridge.

2) In the interim while work progressing plans have either been drawn up or being drawn up regarding expansion of stadium

3) That the enlargement of stadium must at some stage include the leisure facilities or hotels casinos or sucj like on the collar site.

4) To enable the leisure side to be sucessful we will need outside partners who may or may not have been identiied such as Marriot Hotels etc

5) That the timing for such work will be delicate given the shortness of the close season but everything is possible.

6) To enable our season tickets to remain affordable the expansion should incorporate a large expansion of corporate facilities thereby increasin revenue streams on a par with our competitors.

Have I missed something?
