Didn't ADUG buy %30 in UFC, then brought in Cook as UK/European Chief for the sport?

We musn't forget one of or the biggest sports in countries such as Canada right now is MMA.

I remember UFC 105 at MEN (it's at 157 now) a few years back and it sold out very quickly.

A few friends run local smaller MMA promotions and they get good numbers.

But we're talking of selling out 20k+ arenas no danger for UFC so would MCC approve such a big arena when MEN Arena does so well?

why couldn't we just buy 30% of the MEN Arena, tart it up and rename it the Manchester City Etihad Arena, City Arena for short?

The idea is to get people over at Etihad Campus though, no?

MEn Arena area is shit... Only interesting landmark is Strangeways..I mean a F*king prison come on.

well then convince the council that we can build a better one and put some interesting landmark/redevelopment in there that we can stick under the City brand and split the profits with them for.

p.s. The general idea would be to get people to Manchester and in the process they'd go and visit the Etihad Campus.

Talk of tall buildings, Abu Dhabi owned hotel, high end eateries and unique leisure destination(s) are still part of the conversations I have had.

I posted the info on the area being modelled on Melbourne so long ago it hurts but as Petrusha said I still think that is where they are heading.

Multi sport already exists and its true for so many of us that we dont understand what already goes on in the area as we dont use the facilities.

Athletics, tennis, cycling of all varieties already have a home on the campus and the idea of the likes of basketball, boxing, UFC (hiya Garry) and even gymnastics finding a home in a new mini-MEN seems logical to me.

Also a suggestion of some national/international bodies HQing on the campus must surely still be a live one?

How about a centre of excellence for drug testing in sport to sit alongside the sporting injuries clinic we will have in place?

Going over to the collar site though it HAS to be a technology based attraction with Apple/Pixar/Marvel/DC type interactive and immersive 4d tech to draw in people from all over the UK.

Imagine also how wonderful a modern tech led museum could be with the right funding from a tech partner.

I still havent given up hope for the cheetah racing and log flume either........

All sounds great and i'm sure the right people have a plan. I'm just wondering if the collar sight becomes a big attraction, how it would work on a matchday sharing the space with what may be, by then, a 60,000 football crowd. Especially with parking traffic transport etc

And where would the all go to smoke?

Re: Etihad Campus & potential new stadium

It seems the thing being suggested the most is an arena to replicate the MEN, but would the owners not want attractions that can pull in crowds during the daytime, not just night?

if the sole attraction was a venue hosting nighttime events then the area is likely to get a certain reputation and may develop certain characteristics that are associated with nighttime hotspots (e.g. petty crime, violence, rubbish and bottles etc left over the floor everywhere.....), and I'm not sure this is what the club/owners will want to define the etihad campus.

with sport being so prominent, and with players suppose to be living in this area, surely the club would want the area to be more than just a nightlife hotspot?

Re: Etihad Campus & potential new stadium

Isn't the Arena still without a sponsor (since the MEN pulled out)? Seems slightly unusual for one of the busiest arena's in the world to sit without one...I put two and two together and came up some odd fraction. Pretty sure no one would miss the actual physical arena (and it's not like it would be shifting over to Salford or Trafford)...and that end of town (including the Noma quarter) is being hammered with redevelopment. But, who knows...

I'm disappointed as your post would suggest that these have already been discounted. We should petition the club and demand that all redevelopment funding is withdrawn unless it is towards some belle vue esque leisure facilities.

This render of the training complex will give you an idea of where the pictures where taken from. V shaped building is visible. Canal is far right.
