Ok, someone explain this to me.

Why is Eto'o's (Jesus, too many apostrophes) agent calling this conference for tomorrow? Why not now?If he has earth shattering news would he not just give a press conference now, I mean how long does it take to ge a few journos in a room in a hotel?

Could it be that it is his way of giving an ultiumatum to Barca?Sort it now or I will call a press conference tomorrow to say teh deal is off.

My view is that this is all part of the game to get as much loot as possible for his client, a game of bluff and counter bluff.

Never mind what BAllague is saying, he is just rehashing what Sport.es and mundo deportivo are saying.

Bang on imo!

Absolutely. It also fits with this 'July 1st' idea that now is crunch time in eto's dealings with Barca. They seem to want this 'loyalty bonus' because Barca want him to leave. City should just give Barca the money to pass on to him to move it through.

And of course I doubt we would want a press conference on July 1st where every question is about how Eto'o boned us good and proper. If the club don't know what's going on (which I doubt) thenI hope they're busting balls to find out - and if it's looking dodgy, we should come out and say we've terminated discussions with Barca and Eto'o before Wednesday, or the press conference for the shirt launch and whatever 'surprise' we've been promised, could end up a farce.

A good interpretation of things.

It's an undisguised threat to Barca to get busy - but there are a couple of people at City who think they could even be orchestrating this together.
'Oh City have the cash, they are now in the full glare and can pay it' etc.

Worst case scenario for Barca is they get to keep a world-class striker, we just left with egg on face.

That's a rather simplistic view tolmie. They will lose him in twelve months for nothing. Barca will want this deal to go through now no doubt. I wouldn't have thought Laporta would have said anything yesterday if they didn't want shut.

if you wanted to draw someone out, surely you being the wordsmith that you are could have thought of more than Prick.

Prick.

Lets all email Cook and say we want an official statement lol.... seriously I doubt city will sit back and allow Eto'o and Barca to screw us with all the media watching.

- Barca want the transfer fee
- Eto'o wants money
- We have a lot of money

It looks like we are holding all the cards ultimately.

Not really. Eto'o could easily sit on his hands for 12 months if he isn't happy with any part of the transfer.

Sounds to me like tolmies back traking and trying to cover himself here...

slightly sad imo..

and ive heard no different from yesterday for me its still 100% GOGOGO

how bout u zimmer man?

Can't be seen as backtracking, Pollerz. We have an agreement, but it means nowt until ink is dry. I fully expect it to go through. But people saying July 1st etc, there are still issues outside of what is already known.

What's sad, about that, seriously?

There are some posters on here who would argue we had an agreement in principle with Kaka/Dad etc!!

I agree with the timescale u have said mate i wudnt expect it to be done today. altho the deal is nailed on i can see it more likely been the end of the week next week. ive always said to people whove asked me for a timescale on it that we would be pushing to have him signed by wednesday but i doubt it would happen.

If the only point u was making was the timescale then fair enuf but i thought u was covering yourself fo rthe deal not coming off and that it seems is how others thought too.

Bluejase is right. If you want to compare handbag sizes with Billy you could do it by PM, unless of course you just want the attention...

The fact that we have made our bid public now leaves the ball in Laporta's court. They either have to accept the bid publicly, calling Eto'o bluff, or they ask for more money. Either way its going to be a fun 24hrs!!

There is no way that City are not in this loop. If it s all going pear shaped then I expect a statement on the OS. If we get through today without that then I reckon it's still a goer.

What time is the Press conference on Wednesday............is it confirmed????

I spoke to a pal in the media (press) who said that City had no new signing announcements planned at present.

Interesting??

It was Laporta who made the bid public, not City

Maybe, but Barca did a similar thing when we came in for Ronaldinho, they went public and kissed goodbye to extra £10m from us because the player had other ideas...

No one in the media knows whats going on, I just hope this isn't dragged out all day, If we are close then lets seal the deal, If there is any doubt lets walk out, we really don't need another couple of months of rebuilding the 'brand' after another public humiliation.
