Vital Manchester City understands Barcelona striker Samuel Eto'o is on the verge of signing a five-year Eastlands deal.
Our source, who incidentally told us way back in November 2008 that City were showing an interest in the 28-year-old believes a deal is close to completion.
Reports in the national press suggest the Cameroon international has told officials he is happy to sign, however figures of an estimated £1 million a month after tax salary are believed to be slightly exaggerated with £200,000 a week being more realistic.
Barca president Joan Laporta told the press...
"A lot of clubs would like Eto'o in their team. We will do our best in order to renew his contract, because, in my opinion, he is the best striker in the world. But we have a wage structure that we will respect."
"We'd like to renew the contract with Eto'o but not at any price. In this global economic crisis, we have to be an example as well. I hope he understands and we will see in the next weeks."
