If we were to leave the EU and wanted to retain favourable trading terms much like Norway, Switzerland and Iceland, I expect we would be forced to accept Schengen membership like they do. If this happens, we would lose even more control of our borders which is the biggest thing that many Brexiters are fighting against. As members of the EU we, along with Ireland, are the only countries that have an opt out.

It is the first step and not the answer to everything. For anyone who is sick of the establishment and wants real change you cannot vote in and be anything other than a coward. We need to rid ourselves of the Eu and then concentrate on getting rid of the tories and labour. It may be a hopeless cause but it shouldn't stop one trying

Of course not, but it's no coincidence that all the EFTA countries who can pretty much trade with the EU on the same terms as EU members are in Schengen. There will always be trade between the UK and EU but if we want to retain the same or similar terms without excessive red tape or tariffs we can't pretend that there won't be consequences in exiting. It's the volume of trade and the amount of inward investment I'm talking about, not whether there will be any trade at all.

The outcome to all this is inevitable and has been for years, what we are really voting on is a federal Europe, it has a common currency,a parliament,trade restrictions and a policy for people to wander around at will once they are on the continent. Step by step we are being dragged to the obvious conclusion. It will get to the point when having separate armed forces,police,parliaments and mp's will seem pointless. We will be that far in that last step will make absolute sense.

I'm sure Scottish exit negotiations would be fairly favourable as it is not in our interest to have a failing state north of Hadrian's wall. The fact remains though, that any optimistic prediction for an independent Scottish economy relays on a much higher and steadily increasing oil price. That is a fact. The dire warnings of economic strife post brexit are based on speculation which as yet has no basis in fact. You (and I) have no idea what a post brexit trade deal would look like. Our biggest economic drivers care arms/defense and global finance. Whatever the rights and wrongs of this, it is unlikely to be affected by the EU one way or the other. Our position as a global casino and arms supplier to the poor people of the world is safe.

I think schengen and the whole border issue is taking a different slant due to recent incidents in Europe and Syria, the whole situation is quite bizarre, there really should be a eu wide referendum as to whether the people want to go all in, this arsing about is all due to the fact that the powers that be prefer to nudge the continent there without the people having the opportunity to reject it.

The only thing that I agree wth the inners on is that we will get an initial hit on the stock market, financial markets don't like uncertainty, a lot of the establishment are doing very well out of the status quo, the fact that some of our left leaning posters see this as a reason to stay in is quite amusing. It would be more honest of them to actually state their true motives.

They dislike the tories that much(who doesn't) and realise a socialist government ain't happening anytime soon, they would rather unelected European bureaucrats made decisions than rely on the ballot box of their own country. If Corbyn was pm they would be running away from Europe as fast as they could.
