The UK is £1.6 trillion in debt and rising. It is never going to be in charge of it's own destiny whilst it is in hock. The best talent is saying loud and clear it doesn't want to go to or stay in an isolated, xenophobic UK. Why would they? Sidney or Southport beach - it's a tough choice!

Haha Sidney!!
Wasn't aware the Swiss and Norwegians were isolated xenophobes

You surely can't believe that. our engineers are the most respected in the world, our IT guys are some of the best if not the best in the world. Most are forced to work abroad because they are undercut by cheap imports in our own country from conglomerates that put profit before quality.

We have some great people Gaz but we let our manufacturing suffer from under investment. We are not in the same league as Siemens etc and we have also concentrated more on Services.

The reason people relocate will be to maximise profits. Dyson was making multi millions but chose to put 900 Brits out of work. Reducing people's pay is a not a good argument for leaving the EU.

If you want x you pay y, that isn't bullying that is one of the very basic elements of life. Do you k ie of a world where deals are not quid pro quo. Next Time you go to the supermarket ask not to pay as its bullying
but i dont want x

I think you have a bit of an inflated impression of how the world looks at the UK. The U.K. Still has a lot to offer but it's not quite seen as you think . You are right about conglomerates but that is about consumers and demand and the population who buys is responsible. I think also the western view of cheap quality has been held for decades first Japan was cheap and rubbish , then Korea and one by one that cheap tat surpassed on every count the wears equivalent.

I remember as a kid those arguments put forward by advocates of companies like British key land about firms line Honda.

If you feel like this why would you want to remove all the barriers and let it all I ?

Switzerland will make their choice they can take it or leave it and are free to go their own way. They just won't be allowed to take all they want without the agreed price.
and? im sure they will survive as would we, they need us more than we need them

Only caught the last half hour. Fantastic closing speech by Boris. Really do hoe for future generations that we have the guts to leave. If we don't I will accept the majority decision with good grace and kick on.

The UK budget deficit is around 5% of GDP currently. The EU's rules specify a maximum of 3%. When the EU starts to consolidate fiscal and monetary policy in the next two years we'll have no choice but to reduce to that level. That will involve far worse austerity than we've seen so far and Osborne knows that. Austerity, as we already know, acts as a drag on growth. So Osborne's rather optimistic projections based on staying in are nonsense. But by the time we realise that, it'll be too late.

Great post. Let's hope the country sees sense.

sadiq khan was so annoying during that debate he was just shouting over everything. i think Boris johnson got his points across well, hopefully it can help to convince more people to vote leave

Average wage in EU €17640 per year
Average wage in Switzerland €71432
This is what being out of Europe equates too.

I left the Uk years ago when cheap labor imports forced me out. I now live in Switzerland after spending years in Germany,France, Belgium and now Switzerland. I shouldn't really care what happens with the vote, as i'm living in the nearest thing to disneyland, but the fact is I have grandchildren there, that I want to see able to have a job, and buy a house and live in peace.
Letting in half of Europe (with 80 mil Turkish soon too join) isn't going to help that, in such a small country as the UK, which will then have knock on effects on the NHS, Schools, housing costs, traffic etc.

Viviane Reding - Vice President of the European Commission 2010-1014

  • "Strengthening Europe's legitimacy can be best done by turning our Union into a United States of Europe. As in the U.S., we need a two-chamber system for the United States of Europe. A strong political Union with a strong government (the Commission) and two Chambers - the European Parliament and a 'Senate' of Member States."
  • "There will be no repatriation of EU powers. It is not our problem, it is not us making the demands. You are either ‘in’ or ‘out’."
  • "At Maastricht people wanted to have us believe that we could irreversibly establish a monetary union and a new world currency without creating a United States of Europe at the same time. That was a mistake, and now that mistake needs to be corrected"
  • "We must now embark on the road to a United States of Europe."
  • “British sovereignty is mainly in their head because they've signed the EU treaty and most business is in Europe.”
  • "The most powerful parliament in Europe is the European Parliament. Seventy per cent of laws in this country are co-decided there.”
  • "When people ask politicians today “What will become of Europe?” or “Where is European integration heading?”, we usually give an evasive answer. “We don’t want a super state” that is generally the first thing we say. I must admit that I have in the past often resorted to this kind of thing myself.
  • "On the basis of a report by the Presidents of the EU institutions, the European Council is currently working on four new stages of integration: a European banking union with central European bank supervision; a European fiscal union with stricter control mechanisms over national budgets and the development of our own European financing capacity; a European economic union, involving a greater degree of joint decision-making on economic, tax, and social policy and finally a political union."

The whole worlds gone mad..our farmers get paid to keep their fields empty so we can import from other countries. We throw dead fish back into the sea because we have to buy it from other countries..Theres people starving in the world and we are brain washed into thinking that doing this is what people do when they agree to be part of a union....Lets grow our own food..buy our own food and eat it.Fish in our seas and eat what we produce.Lets give our people who live here a purpose.Join together to rebuild our strength in providing for our own.we can then give what we don't require to those who do.Farmers want to farm...whats left of fishermen want to fish.rant over..

Don't agree with the last part, I think we both need each other and a deal with us will require 27 countries to get their little wins which in aggregatwont be good. I would be less concerned about Switzerland as its whole economy and raisin d'etre has been based on stand alone and neutral and it is much smaller so even if it hurt itself the knock on effect and blowback would be much less than for the UK and what Switzerland does is a lot less likely to set off a spiral of problems or spook the world market too much

Again if people are happy to pay more and have lower quality what you say is absolutely fine. It flies in the face of historical evidence, capitalism and rational economic thought but in some ways I like it - sounds a bit like communism and maybe it's time to experiment with it again .
