As an aside, I have read there will be no Exit polls by the major TV or newspapers. If this be true we have shades of the Scottish referendum and vote manipulation to look forward to.

That's ludicrously conspiratorial.
There are no exit polls because they have nothing to compare them to for meaning, and a rogue one could cause more trouble than benefit.
As for vote manipulation, if you actually believe that, you should live in a country without voting.

A story in Australia that brexiters are taking pens to stop an MI5 plot to fix the vote? False or is paranoia really that bad

It's not a dictatorship, I know you far right people think that but it isn't.

It isn't dastardly foreigners over-ruling the British. There are British judges who are in the ECJ.

With many favourable decisions for the country and the people in it I'm glad the high court isn't the be all and end all.
I'm not "far right" i'm a former Labour voter, now libertarian socialist holding a mostly Centrist political stance, so thank you for making a completly wide of the mark, bigoted assumption of my political viewpoint based solely on the knowledge that I voted 'leave'.

The ECJ is not a UK legislative organisation, it's European, therefore it is not directly tied to the citizens of the UK. There are foreign born MP's in Parliament but they represent the intentions of the British people. You're 'glad' the High Court is not the be all and end all and call anyone who supports democracy, sovereignty and liberty as progressive values to be 'far-right'. I can see exactly what type of person you are.

Let's face it, a lot of working people, will be going this evening. That's the grafters, not the retired, the students, the stay at home mummys and daddies, so it could be a big swing...either way.

i think a lot of people who are voting leave are scared to say they are, out of fear of being accused of being racist or a little englander.

Have read that an exit poll would require a few thousand workers and upwards of a 100,000 interviews to be reasonably correct so it is just considered very liable to being wrong and hideously expensive

Not quite true. The Parliament Act was created to allow a government to force something through. Blair abused it.

Generally the HoC accept that the HoL know when a bad law is a bad law.

Obviously no one will knock back a good law, the line comes on what the upper body thinks and the point i am making is that the EU is not a million miles away from the UK set up.
Brexit would have you think is it is closed up mafia with no democracy. It was never going to be far from British views as we help draw up the reconstruction of Europe long before the EU.

Vice verse too, as in Scotland a lot of remainders are afraid of being cornered by a brexiter to be told of all the ills of the world being EU. Usually it is ghe status quo who keep quiet

Appointed by those we have elected.
Not the same as HoL where no one has any input bar some mates. Now that aint democracy.

Right i have to go to vote and need a piss, will be back later
We only elect 73. There are 751 MEP's, 100 more than our own House of Commons and the UK MEP's are outvoted every time.

In a wholly implausible yet still factually possible scenario, we, the British public, could elect politicians of a major political party in the UK, that promises to introduce a bill to abolish the HoL if elected (wasn't Blair aiming to do that in the early 2000's, btw?), becoming elected into power by popular vote of the British public, thus giving the majority controling party the power to enact the bill, who then appoint "turkey's for christmas" Lords to approve it. The EU Commission would never create a bill proposing the closure of the EU Commission for those MEP's in the EP to vote on. There's the difference. There is no method or system that would allow us, the British public, to do such a thing.

A choice, right now, between fear and love. The eyes of fear want you to put bigger locks on your doors, buy guns, close yourselves off. The eyes of love, instead, see all of us as one

I fucking love my country, I love our tolerance, our optimism, our compassion, they tried to take it away from us, we said no thanks
I love being whatever you hate brigade want to call me

It's a wonderful day in the history of our great nation, that has shown the world the way forward, not for the first time, not for the last

Likely.
There are 2 main polling types - an internet poll, which costs about £1000, and a phone poll which is better balanced but costs £10000. The latter is much more accurate as it will be properly targeted, but the expense makes them a minority.

They also have a comparison with previous polls to avoid rogue results. In this referendum, there isn't a viable comparison, so any count wouldn't have as firm a foundation.

I saw a lot of people on Twitter telling people to take pens to the polls. Guess some people really are that paranoid.

Think whatever you like about me.

Far right always like to cast themselves as Libertarian.

Oh, I agree with you, it isn't that dissimilar. I was noting that the HoL cannot veto something outright. It serves a very important purpose, those within it have no chance of being unseated for going against party lines, and thus have more freedom to do what they believe is best. The demands to make it elected or largely appointed to match the Commons are missing the whole point of the HoL.

It's expensive and you can't extrapolate the results, so what's the point?
