Euro Camp

Used to do it every year up to a couple of years ago, going to Brittany in April (it’s been rescheduled three times, so I hope so at least!)

Think it’s a great family holiday and the kids absolutely love it. We did find it a bit hit and miss with the state of the accommodation though, they’ve upgraded most parks now but it is worth checking or paying the extra to get a newer one.

8 and a half years later......

Anyone done a Eurocamp holiday recently? Considering going to The Vendee region in June, getting the ferry or chunnel to Calais and driving to the site. Looks like a 6-7 hour drive from Calais, and with 2 kids will need a couple of stops. Might break it up and stay the night about halfway, so we arent getting to the site to late in the day.

Anyhow, just wondered if anyone had any recent experiences they wanted to share?
Yes regularly across Europe. Off to vendee in summer to la garangeoire, which is an excellent site (I also worked there for eurocamp in the 80s). Ferry to St malo is much easier than calais, but more expensive.

Yeah, much shorter drive in France, but ferry price is £500-600 in comparison to £200 ferry or chunnel to Calais!
Sometimes found it cheaper if we booked ferry via the ferry company rather than through euro camp. Haven't done it ourselves but friend booked eurocamp in the south of France and they provided overnight accommodation at a park on route.

Stayed in a few budget hotels in France and to be honest they aren't that bad f1 hotels is the biggest, b&b Hotels, Logis and Fasthotel are some other I can remember. Also travelling that direction might have a few toll roads and if you are going via Paris or some other big cities you may have to have a clean air Sticker. Only cost a few quid and you might never use it but if you stray into one of these zones it's £150 fine.

Went on a number of these camping holidays in France when the kids were still kids or young teenagers. (Gites too.)

Brilliant. Can’t think of any other type of holiday where youngsters of different nationality mix so freely.

Stayed in various regions but Corsica was tops.

We save a fortune by joining the Brittany Ferries loyalty scheme, usually knocks around 30% off the boat cost as well as a fair amount off the onboard stuff.

Had a couple of years off, but we drive down to Poitou most years, either the Portsmouth - St Malo route, sometimes Portsmouth - Caen. Newhaven - Dieppe is not bad either.

When I looked into it then it’s actually maybe better for us in East Lothian to get the Newcastle - Amsterdam ferry, but I can’t be bothered with the traffic in the Netherlands, Belgium and then the Paris ring road.

Went to a great camp in Argeles Sur Mer in the South of France for many years, wonderful part of the world

We went to one near Salou in Spain 3 years ago and it was absolutely superb. I can't quite remember the name but might We paid about £700 - including flights - for a week in May. I thought there would be a catch, but there isn't. The holidays are just superb value for money full stop.

The accommodation is decent enough - clean, modern, spacious and had a nice patio area outside to sit on. The kitchen had a fridge, cooker in and we had no problems cooking breakfasts etc and keeping the drinks cold! The beds were comfy, clean and we all slept well. The shower was clean and modern too.

The family loved it as it was really chilled and the park was very well kept. They are a cross between a large caravan and like a lodge - they are very nice. The whole place was spotless and they obvious spent a lot of time cleaning up, keeping the gardens well kept etc.

The pools were really good with waterslides, diving pool and a paddling part for the young ones. All the activities on the site were really cheap as well, something like 1Euro for crazy golf. I can't remember all the activities but there was a LOT to do on the site - kids entertainment, arcades, crazy golf, kids clubs at night, tennis, swimming, climbing frames and swings etc. The food and drinks at night were really good value as well. The whole place had a great atmosphere and there was loads to do. Kids absolutely love it and it's very, very safe.

The park we were on was next to the beach and about 15 minute walk from our lodge and the beach was immaculate and hardly anyone on it.

We booked to go to another one the year after, but Covid struck. We will definitely go back again and 100% recommend it.

Hope you have a good time!

True but if you factor in that its a day lost to driving and you might need a hotel somewhere and that is x2 for the way back as well it evens out.

Some of the best holidays we had as a family was at a camp site called Le Grand Large in Normandy
It's a half hour drive from Cherbourg and we did the early 2 and a half hour ferry crossing from Poole
The site is right next to the enormous empty beach, so perfect for the kids
And as another huge plus, there's hardly any French there. It's all Dutch and Germans
