Euro U21 Championships

there have been plenty of top class english players, what are you on about, Shearer, gazza, rooney, owen, scholes, gerrard, lampard, terry, sheringham, tony adams, stuart pearce, england have produced some great players, they just have produced iowhen it matters, bar gazza.

Tbf its seems like the fa can't win, england played to english so everyone said we need to play more like spain, so thats what we tried to do, now its we need to play more like england again. england have some of the best u21 players in europe atm if they'd all have gone i think we would have won it.

Some of those players you mentioned i would include as Wordclass top players BUT like i say i could coun them on one hand, some of them u mentioned whilst being good players they are not world class in my view.

Ask yourself this question without being blinded by patriotism- How many of those players would get in Spains winning teams or Germanys world cup winning team?

German players are some of the most under rated around, espescially by the moronic English press, imagine if Muller was English?! The jizzfest would be unbearable, yet becaus he is German he is not mentioned in the same breath as other top players.

IF these players where so great like the so called "Golden generation" they would have consistently shown it, some of the blame yes lies with the coach BUT the players have not shown what they were hyped to be.

Germany have Barcelona's Champion's League winning goalkeeper at the U21 tournament.

Yet Ross Barkley is too good for the tournament. Go figure.

I don't understand how giving Gibson and Chalobah tournament experience helps anyone, they're never going to get into the Senior squad.

U21 tournament experience would have been really beneficial for the likes of Shaw, Barkley and Oxlade-Chamberlain.

Manchester United, the team lauded by the FA and the media for bringing through and nurturing youth talent, asked the FA for him not to be picked

Very poor from them. He's 18/19 aswell so absolutely no reason for him not to have been at an U21 tournament.

Doesn't really help when your manager calls you fat in public and drains your confidence. Way to help develop the best young English players!

yet according to the media united are among the best clubs in the country for nurturing English talent whilst we just ruin them all

most national teams dont have 5 or 6 world class players though. you dont have to - to end up winning . there are plenty more players i could have mentioned, england have had some of the best players in Europe they just haven't performed on a big stage. some of the players i have mentioned are from different eras though. if we talk about the germany of 2006 then most of players on paper are miles better as an example.

i think players i have mentioned are just as good as some the german players now, for example john terry > mertesaker & boateng, the german team doesn't have many world class players right now. even teams like argentina the only true 'world class players for them are aguero and messi'. you have to play as a team to win tournaments we haven't.

In that case, they can't really claim to be "some of the best players in Europe" if they can't perform where it matters. The true test is: how do you compare with your peers? In that context, there is no comparison. They may be very good Premier League players, but that's all.

I must be honest, I have not seen any real change in tactics in any of England squads for many years, almost back to Alf Ramsey. Get the ball, 473 sideways and backward passes, pass it to midfield, then back again, and repeat. Then hoof forwards. We don't need a midfield, because none of the current crop of youngsters there are comfortable on the ball, despite the "coaching" they receive. We are told that they have a high possession percentage and high completed passes stats, but they are all in their own half, the majority being 5 yard passes. Where it really matters, ie, going forwards, there is a "safety first" approach, with a lot of passes being returned as the player is facing the wrong way to do anything about it.

Until the hierarchy of the younger sides include the best players for a tournament, we will go nowhere slowly. Just picking players through loyalty, as they played against the lesser teams in the group stages, does not add up, as they are found wanting in tournaments where only the better teams have progressed to. If eligible players do not wish to participate, they should be told that their pathway to senior games will not be looked at favourably. It's not a step down, it's a chance to play in a tournament against your peers, and put yourself up against the best in your age group.

Portugal playing some fantastic stuff against Germany so far, playing them off the pitch and just took the lead through a fantastic passing goal, finished off by Bernardo Silva.

Another great team goal on half time, 3-0 Portugal, absolutely fantastic performance.

5-0 now, complete destruction for Ze Germans, even after Portugal started bringing off players to rest them after only 50 minutes. Pretty humilating stuff at this point, now a German has been sent off. Couldn't happen to a nicer bunch ;)
