European Super League | ECJ rule that UEFA and FIFA acted unlawfully in blocking Super League (p 29)

not even portuguese clubs are in, turkish are now being rumored, along with napoli, olympique de marseille and lyon. the youngins are going to go nuts for those hip clubs

I don't understand the antipathy towards a different structure for European football on this forum. Surely of all football fanbases we should be the one that is all for it?

If it wasn't so poorly planned and rushed out when it was, and the clubs were seen to be consulting the stakeholders (including fans) before announcing their intentions there wouldn't have been such a furore.

What is the problem with power being taken away from the PL, UEFA and FIFA and the clubs and hopefully the fans having more say about how the competitions were organised, who had the rights to show them on TV etc? In principle I'd be all for it and the idea of higher quality matches really appeals. Even most CL games are boring to watch these days. UEFA's answer to that seems to be to have even more of them.

I wouldn't miss playing teams who just put 10 behind the ball every week and that would hopefully change if we played higher quality opposition on a more regular basis.
You’ll catch a few.

I was under the impression that it wouldnt be a closed shop. Yes if that was the case i would be shite. But i was led to believe it wasnt

Could you latch on to another team do you think?
The proposals state that it is not a closed shop. No one would support a format with no qualification process or promotion and relegation. If they try to create a closed shop it will never succeed.

Some of the statements I've heard today are laughable especially the one from the government and the introduction of the independent commission
They came out today and said the fans will always have a voice and that's why we brought a ruling in regarding joining a breakaway competition when they protested 2 years ago and clubs can't join
Well what if the fans start warming to the idea of the super league? Will they listen to them and change there ruling ? Not a fucking chance

The Government will block any attempt by Premier League football clubs to join a European Super League after EU courts gave the plans the green light on Thursday.
The European Court of Justice ruled that Fifa and Uefa acted unlawfully by blocking the breakaway league, which has paved the way for some of the biggest clubs in Europe to set up their own big money tournament.
But in a statement from the Department for Culture, Media and Sport, ministers have warned that British clubs will be prevented from joining any such league under forthcoming legislation, the Football Governance Bill.
A spokesman for the department highlighted the Governement’s “decisive action” in preventing the creation of a super league back in 2021, adding the new bill will “stop clubs from joining any similar breakaway league in the future”.
That statement from the Government, like so many, is total nonsense. It would be open to challenge just like the crazy Rwanda policy. I don't disagree with the sentiment though. City could leave the PL and play anywhere that would have them but it would be a crazy move.
