European U21 Championships

send some of our best under 21s to a meaningless friendly in Brazil - what other country would do that? - I know one that wouldn't - Spain - but what have they ever done?
All those who clamour for our kids to play in the senior team must realise that this is what happens - the senior team isn't good enough and the remaining under 21s aren't good enough to win a tournament.
The under 21s must play together as a squad for a four year period with the aim of reaching the peak at the big tournaments, the under 21s should have a squad of regulars for that 4 year period and first choice of the available developing talent and the senior team select from the rest. It can hardly make the senior team worse than it is now!
They will learn to play as a team and by staying together, learn to win together they will then progress to the senior team together as winners. Invest in our young players and in 4 years time we will have a group capable of playing as a team to be used as the base of a team instead of the shambles we have now.
I have reached 50 years of age not actually giving a stuff about England games because they don't play as a team and don't play with any passion, they play with a tactical approach usually far removed from what they do week in & week out at their clubs. But I would be behind them all the way if the players went in to it knowing what they were doing, knowing how each other would play and knowing they were playing football with the aim of being better than the opposition through developed skill and spirit.

Can anybody explain what exactly does Sir Trevor do?

Smiles, talks in platitudes and generally is the bland public face of English football.

Officially he's been the "Director of Football Development" at the FA since 2003. We can all see how English football has developed in that time.

The solution is simple. Ditch the current school system and adopt the American way. That's all that needs to be done.

I haven't a scooby what the american way is, so maybe you can tell us. I believe we should be looking at what the europeans are doing, coz they're getting it right and they are the nations we're competing with. Community clubs are the only way forward mate. I see how it works on the continent and have had young lads over in Germany from the UK, to play in tournaments and friendlies. You should see their mouths water and their eyes light up, when they see the facilities and the coaching over here.

He has some really interesting views on the state of grassroots football in the UK. Views which echo those of my own. However, upon voicing his opinions, he was told to wind his neck in. His hands are tied, but he really only wants the best for the game in our country. The rest should be sacked and replaced by foreingners that know what they're on about. Either that, or at least look at what our european counterparts are doing. Doesn't take a rocket scientist, to see they do it much better.

Heres a pic of the Norwegian contribution to the atmosphere at yesterdays game btw!

Tonight's game between Germany and Spain could be something special. The two leading nations when it comes to youth development head to head.

It'll be two philosophies combating, the Spanish slow tiki-taka against a very quick countering Germany. Hard to pick out a favourite for this one, though the the names on the teamsheet suggests Spain will be victorious tonight.

I myself am really looking forward to watching Thiago and Isco yet again, both of whom I dearly hope will play for us next season.

I actually cannot believe that some people are blaming it on Hodgson taking the likes of Oxlade-Chamberlain to Brazil.

The squad we took on paper should not be being embarrassed as they were last night.

The problem is far too many players are more interested in their holiday to Miami, Las Vegas or Dubai etc and then coming back for pre-season.

You have to remember the likes of Norway have a squad of players that probably includes lads who want to prove how good they are so they can either get a contract at a club or a move from their current team.

So you've met him. Bet he was nice as pie wan't he? But do you have any idea of what he was like behind the scenes? I do and that's why I said what I did. I'll give you a little clue as I believe it's in the public domain. Robbie Fowler talked about how he set the dressing room up so that the white players were encouraged to form a clique against the black, mainly French-speaking players.

Plus you don't tend to be too complimentary about people who go on the radio and slag you off in public.
