Euthanasia, Death and General Anesthetics.

I oppose euthanasia, because countries that have adopted it always end up escalating. In Belgium it went from you can only have it with an untreatable terminal illness, to you can have it just because you feel depressed.
Have you had to experience a parent with advanced terminal cancer living day to day either drugged up on morphine or in agony?

Believe me, having watched my mother go that way, suffering for months on end, you might have a different view

I concur.

My mum is now bed-bound and incontinent, in constant pain from Chronic Arthritis. She has COPD and can hardly get her breath, and she's in the early stages of breast cancer. She's had enough of life and is basically waiting to die.

I asked her earlier this morning if she is feeling ok as she often suffers in silence. She said - "I'm in pain and I wanted to go last week."

If Euthanasia was available she'd take it and i wouldn't be against it. But it's not so I, the family and carers can do is make her as comfortable as possible.

It ain't easy being a carer but i feel duty-bound as my owd queen won't be here forever. She wants to die at home and as long as I'm capable of caring for her she'll get her wish to. I just hope she passes away as peacefully as possible.

We are allowed to choose to put animals to sleep in a humane way but we cannot choose to put our human loved ones to sleep in a humane way... Bizarre! : /

all the best for you and your Ma mate

Some people can be ruined for life from childhood trauma.
It affects your brain development.
You can reach a point where you see death as no big deal , you can be burned out and checkmated to such a degree that there is no going back and you're sick to death of being lectured that life is some kind of gift. For some it is simply a burden and a never-ending humiliation.

No and I have nothing but sympathy for people going through that and their families. I just feel the potential for euthanasia being misused is too great.

It's your life.
If you want to end it, it's no one else's damned business.
Obviously, it is not a decision to be taken lightly and certainly, no one should be pressured into it.
But it is an individual's right. If it was facilitated it would prevent the untidy and messy suicides that happen. Which are far more traumatising for other people.
