Everton (A) | PL | Post Match Thread

Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola talking to BBC Match of the Day: "It was massively important. We have three games at home and two away. Our qualification will be at home, but they are tough games. Stefan Ortega saved the balls that he needed too and the players made a step up in the second half. We were more incisive. I'm really pleased with the game we made in the second half. The players performed really well, all of them."

On Nico O'Reilly: "He's not really a left-back. I would say all of our left-backs score, Josko Gvardiol before and now Nico. He is an attacking midfielder. We have passes, passes and passes and then we can arrive brilliantly into that position. He's arrived from the academy and is helping us a lot. I am more than grateful. He is taking his opportunity."

On whether O'Reilly has grown in confidence and mentally in the past few months: "For sure. He can improve, he is young. But when you play every day and you're playing, playing it is because you can do it. Our fans love him because they love academy players. He is another player that can help us."

On whether the players are motivated: "We are fourth now. This week is massively important. Goodison Park, at home to Villa and then the FA Cup semi-final. To start winning the game and especially how we played in the second half is really important."

24 pages after huge result and great subs. Ric (and plenty on here) must hate it when we win haha

There isn't a lot to say about the game that's why. It was tedious in the extreme. A couple of good saves by Ortega, the subs worked and we won the game. That's it and right now winning is all that matters. We can sort it out in the summer.

Good start. Faded off a bit towards the end of the first half with Gundo and Marmoush completely invisible and Kev Savinho and bernardo ineffective

First half hour of the second half was awful. Seemingly no desire to beat an awful everton team whose players or fans didn't seem particularly arsed and we should have been losing with that branthwaite header. Sorted it out for the last 15 but another tough watch for the most part. Big game tuesday but I fancy us at home (unless pep starts gundo, Bernie, kev and kovacic)

O reilly has saved our arses multiple times this season and sorted that left back spot out and even the defence with gvardiol looking like a rolls royce so far at centre half

The Derby was tedious in the extreme and virtually without incident yet it is 143 pages long versus 56 against Crystal Palace when there was plenty of action and a great performance by possibly our greatest ever player. Folk like to moan.

Ha bollocks mate. EVERY time we win we get the same page count. We’ve got so many shit fans nowerdays. Only happy when slagging everyone off - like I’m doing now lol. There’s so much to comment on that game today. Improved defence, academy lads doing great, players improving, great subs, beating ANOTHER inform team etc etc. It’s not all 5 nils anymore.

Correctomundo

Played plenty of ineffective passing possession which suited them.
The subs made a huge difference, suddenly we were going forward and making them think.
Kovacic impresses with his ruins with and without the ball, and Doku is a bag of tricks, like Omar, both diamonds that need a bit of polishing .

Ortega good saves but poor distribution
Gvardiol was excellent. Motm.

Nunes was OK but foul throws again wtf.

Gonzalez and gundog was OK.

Bernardo and Kevin poor games, Kevin especially.

Marmoush was off it today but still did enough. Still looked good.

Savinho wasn't good.

Doku was a well needed sub, I think he is our only player who drives at the opposition regularly. Sometimes it works sometimes not, but he reminds me of sterling at his peak.

Oreilly played really well. I like that's he is getting all this game time.

The game was boring to watch, low quality even at times. I thought we managed the game well though, I don't think they troubled us that much looking back at it. I'm glad we didn't lose too, we need to keep the confidence going.

Tough one out of the way, bring on the next team.

A derby thread, win, draw, or lose will always attract more comment, we didn't, and showed little desire to win, that will always attract more comment, so hard to compare the 2 really.

Today we got the job done, and most are now thinking of something else, I'm sure the thread will pick up a bit later.

A win, a clean sheet, that's all that really matters.

I'm not a happy clapper.
I see no reason to be one either after that performance from Kev.

Anyone wondering why the club didn't offer a new contract should watch this game.

His accuracy is garbage this season. I suspect it's because he's gassed from doing all the running he is doing which he needs to quit. His personal game management is poor.

Why the rose tinted glasses? Scared of the truth?
Not at all, and I’ll admit I’ve not seen the game at all, but for me I can’t see why after a win away that helps our CL chances, someone would post that.
