Everton (A) | PL | Post Match Thread

Every challenge or 50/50 they're screaming and claiming for something.
A Merseyside thing that as gone of for

People saying Gonzalez not a good enough replacement for Rodri, the problem is no one is. There is always going to be a level of drop off as Rodri is THE best in the world at that

I'm not sure you can really blame them tonight .... all they have seen is a city side that have completely thrown the towel in at that point, and helped Everton score at least one of their goals, it must have really pissed them off .... that comeback from the 83rd minute onwards took everybody by surprise.

Totally agree.

It's just a shit bit of the offside rule, i'd always argue that He is affecting play as the keeper and Ghueye don't know whether to stick or twist even if they are pretty sure he's played him off, we saw one a few Years ago where someone did the same and then another player ran in from behind them and scored, the rags I think, brains not working tonight.

It's crazy watching at times ? We go down the wings with Doku who was outstanding tonight by the way
But I can see it and everybody else can see it NO City players in the box ? Even Haaland to cross too. It's so easy to defend and all you do is go back.

When we go down the middle and play around the edge of the box, you can sense fear by the defenders
in the past 4 or 5 games all of our important goals have come shooting from down the middle and the edge of the box.

We have to learn another way of opening up teams because going out wide all the time is too easy to defend
I would like to see Haaland picking the ball up and running at defenders more, getting the defender on the back foot and making him turn with Haaland's pace and strength
We scored 3 goals tonight. The weakness was in the defending.

The best team always wins the league; nobody can argue with the team with the most points or wins on better goal difference, because you're the winner.

City has not been good enough over the 34 games so far; we have lost so many silly points to teams we should be spanking. I don't know why, but this season we have been so good in the cups and played some fantastic games, also with a so-called 2nd team mainly playing in both cups, when we rest the first team players we seem to struggle in the next league games.

Anyway, it hurts to lose a game of football (feels like a loss) because we lost the title tonight. Forget West Ham or anybody else beating or getting points from Arsenal. from here it's done and dusted
Sadly I agree with you mate. As soon as someone on ESPN said everton had been on a bad run of form I kinda knew we wouldn't win. On paper it should have been 3 nil to City. But we've fucked up too many times this season against mediocre opponents.
I really can't see us winning it now.
Fucking pissed off.

Then again...

We’re not far from our best need to get a proper manager that plays good football, get rid off players that aren’t good enough, bring in great players and we’ll be back to winning trophies again

All fair comment apart from I didn't think Everton did deserve to get back into it and were instead presented with it gift-wrapped. Once that happened though, they did then get their tails up and deserved to go ahead. Hoping we won't have another defensive 10-15 as poor as that for a while!

That’s fair. I still feel as though they had created a decent number of chances throughout the game; maybe I more so meant that they probably deserved a draw overall, all things considered.

They were certainly fortunate to get level in the way they did, of course!

K

Yep. We have been average at best away from home this season. There were some warning signs at Burnley. Until we address the lack of pace and physicality in midfield there will be more games like this.

Not just away. Home games against Forest, Chelsea and Brighton too. We're a young side and the defence is all new really so.i guess they will cock up and crack under pressure occasionally. We missed an old head or two in there like Rodri, Stones or Dias to steady the ship.

Arsenal need to beat West Ham. If they draw or lose they let us back in. What part of that are people struggling with?

We didn't win tonight so that part of your post is irrelevant.

I don't think we're out of it and have said so after the usual meltdown on here after every result that didn't go our way.

If Arsenal draw or lose at West Ham we will still be two or three points behind them, even if we beat Brentford, that's the damaging result of us dropping points tonight ..... we're already in May, games are fast disappearing now, and it's gonna take something special, or totally unexpected for us to win it now.

You need steel and composure at this stage of the season. We have it... just not enough of it I'm afraid. We also don't have much depth. If the first XI aren't 100%, then there's nobody coming to save us. Too much weight on the forst XI and as stated they're just not good enough I'm afraid.

I think it’s important that people don’t lose sight of the progress we’ve made from last season.

It’s frustrating to be allowed back into a title race and fuck up in this manner, but we’re definitely moving in the right direction.

Winning big games, responding well to set backs and putting together long unbeaten runs are trait of our former great sides.

Unfortunately, that soft underbelly from last season has been exposed at times which is why we’ve drawn so many games from winning positions.

But if we get the summer transfer window right and overhaul the midfield area, I’d make us favourite for the PL next season.

He could have been stood on the goal line tickling donnarumma’s balls but the minute Guehi passed it to him, he’s onside.

But if the linesman flagged for offside, don't you have to restart the game with a free kick after offside
Forget anything else because they should have stopped. Guehi pass was not a restart ?

That game epitomised our last 2 seasons, and I loved the response. Don’t get me wrong, I wanted a 1-0 plus, but after the mistakes I was looking for a fightback. And that’s what we got.

Personally, I was never looking at winning the league this season but was looking for at least a challenge. Still challenging while winning a pot, and on course for a second one, is way beyond my expectations.

We have a chance.

No it isn't done and dusted, anything can happen yet but the point is we're rebuilding and nobody expected us to be this close at this stage. The only thing I don't understand is nobody really expected us to win anything but because we're now not likely to win the league we get half the so-called fans on this board slagging the team off.
