Everton (A) | PL | Post Match Thread

There were signs before that goal. They should have scored when clean through but their player fucked it up.

They could easily have scored 5 tonight which should never be the case when we are playing a team of cloggers like them.

Yes it was weird. All the worst aspects of when we were really bad came back to haunt us tonight. Individual mistakes, going to pieces under the first bit of pressure and conceeding quickly again after we let the first one in.

Guehi's touch and control create another phase of play. The player who ultimately scored wasn't offsides in the next phase of play. Doesn't matter if Guehi saw him or not or whether he saw the linesman. The player was not offsides in the phase of play that resulted in a goal. If it's been given offsides in identical circumstances - that was a mistake.

So the issue apparently is still "poor us."

The issue is how stupid the rule is. They’ve tied themselves in knots trying to amend rules that didn’t need amending, just like the handball rule.

If a player is offside and interfering with play then the flag should go up. Simple as that.

The fact the striker is offside, moving towards the ball and cutting off a potential passing lane is clearly interfering with play. It might not be directly affecting the defenders ability to play the ball but it’s certainly impacting his decision making.

But you said NOTHING HAS CHANGED!?!

Funny how all the bookies and all the exchanges (and all the adults) disagree with you.

I'll put it another way then - so you only have to count to 6, not 9 - if Arsenal draw with West Ham, it won't now be in our hands. Had we won tonight, it could have been, were we to beat Brentford.

And you call me a tit? Jeez, it's hardly quantum physics.
I see where he's coming from mate.

We had to win all our games, stil need to.

That means, so do they.

Beat Brentford and see what they have!

One things for sure, this end of season you before me scenario just for TV is fucking ridicilous. It has a huge psychological impact on the outcome.

Wish we had played Saturday same time as them.

If Palace make the Cinference league final, the final is rhe Wednesday after final game of the season. So not a hope in fuck Palace wull put their full team out against them in that game

Judging Palace on how they played against us before they’ve even got to the final, I wouldn’t count on them doing anyone any favours if they actually get there. They were absolutely appalling.

Yep. We have been average at best away from home this season. There were some warning signs at Burnley. Until we address the lack of pace and physicality in midfield there will be more games like this.

Palace won't roll over for anyone, especially at their gaff.

Fuck off Yaya.

Guehi has been fucking brilliant.

One slip during an offside procedure didnt cost us the title.

In fact, I hope Marc doesn't see your nonsence.
He won’t see it.

He has been excellent, agreed. But that is Gerrard-esque.

If he doesn’t mess up we don’t go to pieces.

Have to give credit to Everton really for that second half performance, they deserved to get back into the game at minimum despite the comments on their thuggishness being fair game at the time.

I thought that would be a comfortable win based on the first half for you lot, but it seemed a very skittish second half that was compunded by the Guehi moment. I thought the City team still showed great character in the end, despite the result on paper. Just one of those days — at the wrong end of the season.

It’s not over until it’s over, but that looks like it’ll be a damaging one. Given that us and Brentford are going for Champions League potentially, I fancy our chances against you at home in GW37; but Arsenal could just as easily bottle a game or two still!
All fair comment apart from I didn't think Everton did deserve to get back into it and were instead presented with it gift-wrapped. Once that happened though, they did then get their tails up and deserved to go ahead. Hoping we won't have another defensive 10-15 as poor as that for a while!

Absolutely correct. Sure Guehi fucked up but he's scored from an offside position, it shouldn't be an argument.

You’ve literally just spent the first half of your post talking about the past and then said nobody can come back at you and talk about the past?

We’re in a rebuild. This has happened every single time before. A team dominates the league, players get old/move on, the club then rebuilds its squad and goes again. The usual timeframe is 2 seasons off it. Ferguson did it on 3 occasions where the Rags would win 2/3 leagues in a row, then fall away to 2nd or 3rd whilst he rebuilt and then would come back and win again.

We’re in that now.
The league is dreadful.
Arsenal are poor with dreadful tactics, they are top of the league cos they are less shit than everyone else.
3 of the so called big 6 have sacked multiple managers this season.
This isn’t a strong league and we look poor in it.
I’m not expecting a miracle where we click our fingers and we’re back at it.
At the very least I expect some real effort, especially when fighting for a title.
Rebuild or not there’s no excuses for the way we’ve strolled out for many second halves this season, usually late I might add.
In a rebuild I expect mistakes, I don’t expect a lack of heart and desire.
I honestly don’t think we do anything to a high standard anymore.
Work rate, lack of movement, lack of pressing, fannying about with the ball trying to walk it in and we constantly leave ourselves wide open at the back.
Thank fuck for Khusanov and Donnarumma.
Recruitment has played a huge part as well.
Too many players who might be good enough.
Take Haaland, Marmoush and Semenyo all three have the same qualities, great goal scorers but not very good footballers.
Which then hampers our attack and creativity.
Tonight Semenyo I thought was awful, but what’s the other options?
Savinho?
You could stick Cherki or Bernardo out there but then that weakens our central midfield.
Nico G I’m on the fence about.
He doesn’t look good enough consistently, however he hasn’t had the chance to prove himself.
There’s multiple games where he should’ve gotten minutes.
I think this season has given a false impression of where we are.
We are less shit than everyone else.
Just like the season before.
It’s not exactly elite is it?
We built a winning elite mentality, not just in the players and manager but in the fans as well.
I expect more.
If half the players had put in the effort Doku did tonight we win that game comfortably imo.

Seriously? If they should draw a match (doesn't matter whether it's West Ham or not) and we had won tonight, then us winning every game would have had us Champions, irrespective of anything that Arsenal could do in their matches.

That is no longer the case.

You don't need to think that we're out of it (I'm a born optimist, so always think that there's a chance) to work out that mathematically our situation has become poorer by drawing tonight.

To answer your question, nobody here is struggling.m with any of it.
Arsenal need to beat West Ham. If they draw or lose they let us back in. What part of that are people struggling with?

We didn't win tonight so that part of your post is irrelevant.

I don't think we're out of it and have said so after the usual meltdown on here after every result that didn't go our way.

Does that extend to the 10-15000 who leave every week at home.
I'm not sure you can really blame them tonight .... all they have seen is a city side that have completely thrown the towel in at that point, and helped Everton score at least one of their goals, it must have really pissed them off , even i nearly chucked my computer straight through the window ... that comeback from the 83rd minute onwards took everybody in the ground by surprise.

Always amazes me with us, Pep should be saying do not concede free kicks or corners, our achilles heal.
Not easy when ref gives free kicks for non fouls but corners are more avoidable.

Go to bed.

You need steel and composure at this stage of the season. We have it... just not enough of it I'm afraid. We also don't have much depth. If the first XI aren't 100%, then there's nobody coming to save us. Too much weight on the first XI and as stated they're just not got that touch of tip top class.

Extremely disappointed with the everyone except Doku and Donna. Really shocked with Cherki x Back 4

Let's face it, folks. We've not been good enough to be anywhere close to winning the league this season. Somehow, miraculously, we're still clinging on by the slenderest of threads.
I'm now thinking about the hilarity, rather than the probability...

Based on that showing I just can’t see us winning all our remaining games regardless of what Arsenal do.

Why we don’t go more direct to Haaland sometimes is beyond me. Look what happens when we do

It's crazy watching at times ? We go down the wings with Doku who was outstanding tonight by the way
But I can see it and everybody else can see it NO City players in the box ? Even Haaland to cross too. It's so easy to defend and all you do is go back.

When we go down the middle and play around the edge of the box, you can sense fear by the defenders
in the past 4 or 5 games all of our important goals have come shooting from down the middle and the edge of the box.

We have to learn another way of opening up teams because going out wide all the time is too easy to defend
I would like to see Haaland picking the ball up and running at defenders more, getting the defender on the back foot and making him turn with Haaland's pace and strength
