Why have Everton taken to calling themselves the "People's Club"? Is it because they are deluded , Gollum-peddling twatzoids?

It came from David Moyes unveilling as manager where he said he thought Everton was the people's club of Liverpool. Kind of like how people say we are Manchester's working class club.

I hadn't realised it went as far back as that. I don't remember hearing the phrase until last season's cup final. I'm sure they're saying it more than they used to.

we may be a working class club, but we are THE Manchester club.

But wouldn't you hate it if we started calling ourselves the "people's club? It is almost as excruciating as clubs who play some ridiculous ditty or other after each goal they score.

God's own club is as bad.

I always thought that was ironic. People actually think god would support City? Or am I missing something.
