Everton (H) | PL | Post Match Thread

I have absolutely no idea how to answer that, apart from to say Pep has always shown a propensity to over-complicate matters, when the logic of Occam's Razor should be applied... The simplest explanation is usually the one closest to the truth. Why would Pep revert to inverted FB's, when his famed 4-3-3 was working so well? It had to be on his instruction, & if it was, it makes the mind boggle as to why...

We've seen this when Guardiola has reserved the most curious of selections & tactics for our biggest matches, leading to shock defeats, like the CL Final against Chelsea. He inexplicably changed what had worked so well for us that season & fucked us for that final.

However, I recall Pep's penultimate pre-match CL Final interview as we prepared to face Inter, where he told the world's media "Don't worry guys, I won't over-think this final". The only shock he delivered was dropping an in-form Walker for Akanji, but luckily it didn't affect us too much & we went on to complete the treble.

It's during that summer that we needed to start our succession planning, which we failed to do. We had the funds, & fans were crying out for us to go big, but our big purchase was a 21 year old Gvardiol. We were also not forceful enough in moving Kalvin Philips on, especially after Rodri's warning that he was close to burnout & feared for his health... A warning we failed to heed with devastating consequences!

As Rat Boy said during the match against the Dippers, the problem isn't having 30+ year olds playing in your team, it's when half your team are 30+ year olds it becomes an issue. We've got a lot of rebuilding to do, but our rivals & the clubs who possess our transfer targets know this too which weakens our negotiating position in the transfer market.

This is all on City. We've allowed this situation to develop for the last two years & now our usual squad evolution has now become a critical squad revolution. We need younger replacements for our ageing Superstars, as we can't afford time for the promising youngsters to develop as we did with Foden.
Excellent post.

Why you booing you self entitled dick heads!!! The players are trying so much to pull this round.our home support is fucking shite. It should be a cauldron in there so have a word with yourselves. Well done all the players and to the so called fans you are a fucking disgrace!!!

it's never been a cauldren and never will be, so stip with the hyperbole please, booing is a cunts trick but blaming fans for the team being shite for no reason is one too

what we started with today should be good enough to beat everton, there is bo excuse for the equaliser and the apathy in the second half

So many worrying signs today after a bright opening 20 mins

The lack of fluidity or any kind of link up in our front three is one

The time Ake put a good tackle in on DCL when he was last man with him was another. Akanji jogging back, not looking bothered
Happened a few other times

I cannot believe that genuine fans are starting to question Pep.
Yes it’s a shit run and in no small part to Rodri’s injury and the rapid decline of KDB,Kyle and Ilkay amongst others.
We have a patched up squad struggling with energy and confidence.
Imho we are witnessing this due to some malaise and lack of succession planning in the transfer market.
We’ve 13 weeks of shit not 13 years.
Love this club.

Fair enough mate. The players haven't just suddenly lost all footballing ability though, look at our results pre-October international break we were unbeaten. Its now up to Pep to motivate them to get back the results, at the moment that's not happening and it cant all just be stuck on the players.
Yea I am not sure what is going on. But imo it is still more players. No one is on form, last season Foden was a menace this seasons I haven’t seen one good game. Haaland idk what he does. Silva just runs around without any read end product. Defense injured a lot so the only defender that I am confident when they play is Ake. Walker is done, gundo I thought would be better but it was a mistake. Obviously no Rodri.. just seems like a perfect story

100%. Can’t believe we didn’t raise the roof today. Only time was after Haalands miss. Second half wasn’t good but it also wasn’t from a lack of effort today. When things are this bad you need a little luck and a lot of help from the fans.

Were you singing? Because its pretty grim sitting there in the cold whilst they put in that fucking performance.

We were singing up in ss3 and it was a pretty decent atmosphere for 30mins or so.

Akanji is looking every inch the bargain basement buy he was.

That was fucking abysmal.
I am not dressing it up anymore. Very very very poor from back to front.
Haalands tired is he?? Fuck off. He is a lazy **** so how is he tired??
No desire,no energy.

Let's be honest if Everton were a little sharper they would have won it at the end.
Savinho, Doku awful signings. Not thought out.
See you at Leicester.

Honestly, I thought there was flashes of things being better today.

Periods where we were controlling the game, lifting the tempo when the space appeared, then snuffing out any counter attacks.

Also thought we were mixing it up better, going long into Haaland at times.

Unfortunately we got worse and worse as the game went on.

I said the same in my post match post mate.

The lads are that unfit they can only keep that going for half an hour. They’re nowhere near PL 90 mins fit.

They can all go to fuckin hell! Every last fuckin one of em! Pep..Pep..FUCKIN PEP!! Bring on some fucking energy in the last 15 minutes instead of your fuckin chum Gundogen! Just fucking give these fucking kids a fucking chance! RINSE AND FUCKING REPEAT! Absolute fucking genius but he needs to start taking some of this blame. All of em in the fuckin doghouse. Fuck I'm fuckin annoyed!

Doku seems to think he has an age every time he gets the ball, loses it on the wrong areas all the time, as a striker you don't have a clue when the ball is coming in, frustrating as hell
I don't see what he offers us at all. He’s got no idea what he’s doing yet often beats his man then loses the ball or just gives it away. Overplays constantly and hardly ever contributes to a goal. Doesn’t do anything defensively and plays for fouls in stupid areas. I’ve very rarely ever been as frustrated and perplexed by a player. The conclusion I’ve come to is he’s thick.

That performance was a fucking disgrace, at least those booing at the game were there.

Absolute shite again, this was against a fucking woeful Everton, and they should have beaten us.

I say it a lot lately but what the fuck is Pep saying at half time?

We did enough that first half to be 2 or 3 up but weren't. They get in our Box once and fucking score.

Second half I don't know what the hell that was

Savinho, had a bright half hour but his decision making is terrible.

Disappeared second half apart from the penalty Assist, which we missed.

Doku, Jesus Christ. I've supported him but that today, lazy and careless.

Whoever signed off the deals for Doku, Savinho, Nunes, Alvarez, Palmer needs shooting (metaphorically). If it was Txixi then no wonder he's off.

Pissed off with that shite,

If that’s as deep as your analysis of Jack’s contribution goes then there’s little point engaging with you.

Headline stats re goals/assists obviously don’t reveal the much deeper and more complex layers of a player’s effectiveness on the pitch. They’re merely a useful tool for ill informed media morons to pass their prejudices and biases on to daft fans who don’t understand what they’re watching and can’t think for themselves
One of the most unashamedly condescending, know-it-all posts ever on here.

False 9. It won us a league. At the moment haaland is a waste of a shirt
How much of that is down to him and down to his service i think is debatable (the service is appalling/ his effort is appalling)
False nine wont work now , we had sane, ffs , raz and peak kev feeding them, peak gundy and jules and in form phil , it would be a utter car crash now

When i see it written down i think how the fuck have we gone from that to this , players get older of course but we didnt replace the others well enough

Better but not by much, some positives, some same issues.

Agree with most of you ,but the atmosphere at home stadium should be a lot better. Watch Dortmund and signal induna park ,that shit gives you goosebumps ,not that every single stadium should be like that ,but definetly fans on the stadium could do a lot better. Our performance is sh.t ,everybody sees that and no clue if it will ever improve before next season and lots of changes.
