Everton hypocrisy - the ’Mersey Millionaires’

How long before it fails to get a safety certificate? I seem to remember reading and Everton blog stating that they will need to sell two of Stones, Lukaku, or Barkley regardless of the new TV deal.

After tonight's showing, that would be Lukaku and Barkley then because Stones must have just knocked at least 15 million of his value.

Tell your ma, your ma,
To wipe away all the tears,
No trophies for twenty years,
Tell your ma, your ma.

Funny you should say that. Was only telling my lad about the 'champagne on ice' song last night lol!

I would argue only Barkley would be 'worth' their reported valuation. Both Stones and Lukaku have displayed their weaknesses of late, both being light years from the quality their suggested price would infer.Of the three,Barkley is undoubtedly their real gem, and,i believe,he would thrive in our side.

I have to agree with the general point of this thread. Liverpool since the days of Shankly and Everton have both been backed by big money when compared to other clubs. The Moores family backed BOTH clubs at one time or another.

Look at Liverpool. Their history before Shanks was one of SIX trophies in EIGHTY years! When Shanks came along he was given money immediately - doubling Liverpool's then record transfer to sign Ian St. John for starters. The fact of the matter is that money has always shaped football. There will always be times when certain clubs have more money than other clubs...this is what creates the cycles and eras of success for each club. Would Liverpool have won so much in the 70's and 80's, for example, if the likes of Villa hadn't been hamstrung by the miserly likes of Doug Ellis? (He got them relegated FIVE years after they being European champions, remember.) If Villa had people like the Moores behind them might history have been different?

Go back to the late 1920's and you will find Arsenal were taken over by one of the wealthiest families in the UK. Up to this point in time Arsenal were non-entities. Small-fry. Nobodies. With their new wealth they bought themselves into the top flight and simply paid off Hudderfield Town (then the top side in England) for their manager and best players resulting in Arsenal becoming the top side of the 1930's... The fact of the matter is that Arsenal are a club totally and utterly founded upon "bought" success - basically they bought the Huddersfield Town "franchise" and moved it down south.

It is rank hypocrisy from Everton fans and Liverpool fans to complain when their teams are suffering. Scousers seem to think that their football experiences are somehow different to everyone elses. They seem to think that other clubs' successes are unworthy and not as genuine as their own...it's right up their with Geordie delusion.

How I hope Liverpool get relegated. Of course, Liverpool fans will feel their club is somehow above such things. Let's remember that before Shanks and the money they were a second division club and as mediocre as they come. A return to the division where they came from before money arrived would be a fitting end to their cycle of bought success. It's kind of ironic: now that they are saddled with owners with no money their success has run out. Surely they can see the link?

Spot-on !! Have you noticed how clubs with 'history' decided that 'history' starts when they first became successful.....Arsenal didn't win a bean until 1930.....!!!

City fans you may enjoy the now bit you're relying on someone who is not a City fan to help you. You could just be one big game of Fifa 11 to him and it may not be now but in say 10 years if he's bored your club is finished. It would simply not sustain the wages. Sleep with that thought that it could all go tits up at any minute :)
Love this post, hahaha, what a short sighted bell end! Talk about not having a clue. Wonder where this lad is now and whether he still thinks the same now we're bringing in giant deals just to have a sponsor on a bridge outside the ground never mind things like the Chinese investors chomping at the bit to be part of our club.

Plus he obviously knew nowt about the Sheikh. He must just think the guy is just sat in a Palace all day twiddling his thumbs, when the man is a high profile world business leader with multiple giant companies. As if someone of that business calibre just gets bored of a business and fucks it off!

Where's this guy nowadays, top post!

And never forget they were one of the five clubs (along with the rags, Liverpool, Arsenal & Spurs) that were behind all the main moves in the 1980's and 1990's that tried to tilt the financial playing field in their favour;
  • Ending the gate revenue sharing agreement in 1983, when that money was virtually the sole source of income so the "big" clubs with large crowds got richer at the expense of the smaller clubs.
  • Doing the disgraceful deal with ITV whereby only they would be shown most games and would therefore pocket the vast majority of the revenue.
  • Setting up the Premier League in 1992, which took money away from the Football League clubs.
And since 1992, they've won just 1 FA Cup and stil play in a crumbling, wooden stadium. Wonder if they still think it was worth it?
Too right, they'd do well to remember that the way football has gone with the Abramovic and Sheikh owned clubs they seem to get on the moral high ground to hate were spawned as a direct result of them and their greed in the 80s and 90s!

Isn't it a shame that ADUG were apparently considering Everton as a potential acquisition but lost interest when Kenwright failed to return their call?

I think it was Fat Ash at Newcastle who didn't return their call, Everton refused to hand over their books to allow due diligence to be carried out. Then again, I might have got that the wrong way round.
