Everton post-match thread

Just got back. Yet another top trip ruined by Pellegrini and his non-existent tactics. The guy is ruining the good work he did in his first season by producing shite like this on a weekly basis for the past 12 months. I want him to quit now so that he can save his reputation and be remembered as the one who won us the double magnificently in his first season rather than the one who destroyed our season this year.

And yet again hardly anybody bothered to come over and clap the city fans that had made the journey and were loud all game. I counted 4 of them that came to about the halfway line for a token clap. Captain Yaya was first down the tunnel.

Credit to Everton they thoroughly deserved to win. They wanted it more, worked harder and had far more chances. If wasn't for some poor finishing we could've been out of sight. Best player on the pitch was Barkley who looks a cracking player at the moment. As for us yet again another poor performance in fact I'm beginning to think this is as good as it gets which is shocking considering the money spent.

That's so disappointing. I mean, that's just terrible. I know the mike was near, but that was the loudest I've heard our away contingent in quite some time over the television, and all game long. A number of us in our little California pub commented on it. Well done. Shame the players weren't as appreciative.

The players don't care, and it shown in their performance tonight. For all those saying we expect too much, fuck off, we should expect the best. Not a group of lazy bastards who don't deserve to be on the pitch. I'd rather have watched our youth team play tonight because they would have had some hunger and desire.

Barkley was fucking awful in the 1st half giving the ball away all over the pitch. Flashed some danger in the 2nd but he was poor overall I thought

I didn't think the result was a complete disaster. People need to remember that we are fighting in four competitions and still have an extremely good chance of going through in this one! Aguero's assist for the goal was fantastic :)

The result wasn't, but the performance was a disaster. Everton looked so good in attack and in defense and that's down to us.

The performance was shit, and it's on the back of a lot of shit performances. Why the fuck anyone is comparing us to bygone shite eras right now is beyond me. Yes, we were shit then...but we didn't have the squad we have now. If you can't see that, then you're in denial. We're limping along right now, punching well below our weight. Maybe things will turn around and we'll have a good season, but there are no signs of that. The football is stale and predictable. Doesn't mean I'm not happier than when we were shit, but we should have higher expectations. Pretty sure our owner does.

I didn't see the game as I live in NZ and am at work but from what I have read, their first goal was offside and we should have had a stonewall pen. We had twice as many shots on goal and shaded possession.

It was Everton who had more shots on goal.
Everton were more threatening with the possession.

Everton played a near perfect game. Had plenty of chances, shots from distance, directness, players taking on our defenders with confidence, compactness in defense, and good tempo. The way they kept possession of the ball with 10 men was the icing on that top performance. If only that was us....

Yaya was a passenger, as so often. Worse still, I don't think I've ever seen him give the ball away as much.
I'll look forward to Pellers memoirs, when he can explain the reasons behind his final substitution - their full back goes off: they go down to 10 men for the last 5 mins: we take off a forward and bring on a holding midfielder (who generally has been shit, and made no obvious contribution, given that Everton kept possession beautifully, seeing the game out - thanks in no small part to the excellent Gareth Barry - man of the match.)

So much wrong again last night. I was hoping after Watford we would have kicked on.

Umbrella passing around their box, no tempo qgain, no end product, too many not putting the effort in etc

Another pisspoor Madderly performance, thier first should have been disallowed and when will we get a penalty?

Pelli is too safety first in general but was right to shore up at the end. 2-1 is still very much game on, 3-1 would have been a disaster.

I fear that come April we'll be willing the season to end. After a great first 5/6 games we've looked poor to wank, if Komps is out Pelli needs to earn his dough and devise other tactics....

it was always going to be a tricky game against Everton, as they are somewhat of a bogey team for us. I aid to a fellow City fan in work yesterday that I can see us struggling (considering our poor away form as well).....he said he would take a draw. Everton were bang up for it last night and they were better in all departments. That said it is a 2-leg game and one that we can over-urn when they visit us at the Etihad.

Also I am just glad that it wasn't the league game last night as we would have lost more ground, I expect us to now go on and actually beat everton in the return leg of the cup and also in the upcoming league game. Playing them 3 times over 4 weeks should go in our favour. Our away form though is very worrying and has been for some weeks, the players don't look confident enough and last night for me was the worst performance I have watched for a very long time.

The passing was slow, did not penetrate the midfield of everton quick enough and Aguero looked lost. The style of play that allows Silba to feed Ageuro was actually none existent last night as everton smothered the spaces in front of silva so he could not find kun. Then through in the lack of movement elsewhere and it was just frustrating

The most frustrating thing for me is how well we start then all of sudden around 20-30 minutes in we just seem to disappear.

It's happend quite frequently this season, especially in recent weeks against Everton last night and Leicester last week.

Also, I have read after many a game this season that we have had 15-20 shots on goal, however I don't remember that many clear cut chances being created. Aguero hardly had a chance bar two or three attempts last night, we should be creating at least 8-10 opportunities a game for him in my opinion with our quality.

Very slow at times and not much intent being shown to get the ball into the box, it's almost becoming similar to how United have gone under Van Gaal where it is very possession dominated but without that much intent to score.

I don't think his heart is in it. He refuses to play Nacho, Sterling was also a good option. Taking off Mangala for DeMichelis made no sense as they're both equally useless. Trophies are there to be won this year but the team is no longer responding to MP. Bring in somebody to see out the season and maybe you'll get a spark.

Who would come in as a stop gap? I mean it's not like we have a few trusted ex-managers that could do it, like Chelsea have.

It will only be in our favour if Pellegrini acts on where we went wrong. I doubt he he will.

Where is this great football that is so good we have to put up with a wobbly defence? Other than the odd game we have been turgid to watch for 12 months or more.

Conceding within 2 mins of scoring was amateurish last night.

Mangala did his hamstring in the first half. Could be out for a number of weeks now.

Mangala is out injured.....I refer to my post in the united thread.

I'm not sure if either of these points have been made yet, but
1. I feel the Everton game last night was like others season as a whole for us- started great but then nothing
2. I don't think the recent Watford result helped our players tonight- after the Watford game I said that we can take some belief into the last few mins of a game knowing we can win it, but last night just showed that the players thought they could win it without trying, the 2 city goals at Watford were world class and I thought that was the only thing that separated us from Watford, and sadly we are not likely to get ourselves out of shite with world class goals every game, unless we start putting some effort in.
