They have to be funded by dodgy money, no one with any sense does what they are doing, Roman had billions to spend, but he spent it well , he had a very different business model to ourselves but it was hugely successful to him and Chelsea.

Southampton do, he’s their player! Presumably we have a first refusal, so if Southampton did accept Chelsea’s bid we would have the option to bid £40 million for him. But even if we did, it’s unlikely that Lavia would have come back here anyway

That £10m is a bit of a red herring.
If Chelsea buy him directly from Southampton for £50 m, Southampton get the £50m minus any sell on clause that goes to us.

Sell on clause and buy back clauses are generally arranged so that the end financial result is similar.

It's straight forward really. If Chelsea bid and Southampton accept, we're then notified and can bid the pre-agreed amount which Southampton must accept. It then comes down to the player whether he wants to return to us or join Chelsea.

I would imagine we would use our buyback clause, and either keep him or sell him for the higher amount.
