Every premier league game this weekend to play French national anthem

More than 2000 people died in the month long Israeli assault on Gaza last summer. Various clubs were fined when their supporters displayed Palestinian flags in support of the victims.

The whiff of double standards fills the air.

Well, I suppose if you're going to play another country's national anthem, the French one is one of the best.

Can't help but think though this country is increasingly moving towards a Scouse mourning culture. Can you imagine what WW2 would have been like if every bombing raid and every sunken ship had required some sort of formal mourning ceremony?

Still, can't fight it. It's the way we are now.

I do wonder how psychologically draining this might well be becoming for some of the French international players too. They were in the vicinity of the initial bombing on Friday and then the events of Tuesday must have been quite emotionally overwhelming. They've been forced to reflect on events and represent their country in a very public fashion for almost a week now and if it were me, i'd probably want to be left to reflect on it privately from this point on.

We are sadly moving towards a world where there will be a minutes applause on every other minute of the game, a minutes silence before every game and a race to show how sad we are at every act.
There's far too much of this shit isn't there? It never used to happen, now every month there's some club applauding for a minute for something or other. Ten seconds later they continue to not give a shit about it whatsoever.

We have a minutes silence once a year at Christmas to remember those who've left us that year. We've been doing that or as long as I can remember that's plenty enough just once a year. Then the traditional Remembrance around 11/11 for people who've died in past or current wars.

There's no need for any more than that and there's no need for this French Anthem neither.

People love to be seen showing that they're saddened or outraged over something. That's what the Premier League and its clubs are doing here. They're wanting to be seen as showing that they're part of the solidarity of it all. We used to take the piss out of United when they used to have press releases after tragedies, but on Saturday morning every single club had one. Why? It's got fuck all to do with football.
